Clementine weight query

So Clementine and Willoughby had their vaccinations today, had the check over etc, Willoughby still 1.7kg but Clementine is 2.6kg.

Now I've had them maybe three weeks now? And they've been in boarding since March 2025 so I've not really had them long enough really to see anything maybe. She was 3.6kg when they were dropped off though. I think the boarding place were overfeeding pellets if anything, their poops are back to what I remember now, but took a few days after picking them up to get back to that... Buttt that worries me more because if anything I'd have expected her to gain weight? Could it just be because she's getting old? She's nearly 9 I think. Idk just a bit worried about her. Wondered if anyone had any advice. Thanks x

Did the vet make any comment about her weight? Has she got Arthritis?

Tan, our late Standard Rex, developed Arthritis in her later years and lost a bit of weight (sorry can't remember how much), which my vet said was due to muscle loss. Do you know if they had much exercise at the boarder's?

I would weigh her now with your scales, as you don't know how they compare with those of the vet. Then I would weigh her again weekly over the next few weeks. Then at least you will know whether she is still losing weight.

Just that we need to keep an eye on it really. I think so, although we tried meds for it before and it made no difference so I'm not sure. They said before that after her double knee surgery she'd definitely have it.

They had access to a large run there so I assume she was exercising.

Yea I'll have to get some scales, we did have some but Michael is packing up our house and has already packed them and put them in storage unit and no idea where they are 😂

Really hope she's okay, although I guess she's old now. I've had her since I was 22, been through an awful lot together. She remember me immediately when we picked them up even though it had been 9 months since she'd last seen me and did her head smush move she only does with me. She's hard exterior but gentle and soft underneath it all. She's a very special rabbit.

Awww, of course she is a special rabbit. Its so nice she remembered you after all that time
Clementine used to be a bit chubby? Am i remembering that right? That she'd keep a good weight
just eating loads of hay? Is she underweight now? Does she feel skinny?I think there are too many variables to pinpoint a cause
with any certainty. If she is looking & acting ok & given her health check didn't raise concerns I'd do as your
vet suggested & keep a close eye on things. She might just have Just been missing her dream hay.

It must be nice to have your furry family back  Lots of well wishes for Clementine

Yea she was never considered properly overweight(talking about the last few years, at one point she definitely was chonky) but she was heavier than you'd like for no real reason 😂 but she maintained that and it seemed to just be her.

Not underweight yet but getting there apparently. She looks skinnier but she has lots of blubber so it's hard to see really 😂 you can feel it though.

She's eating bucket loads of hay, they both are tbh I'm guessing the hay wasn't quite as good where they were, they're eating hay like it's veg, even at the vets yesterday Clementine was munching away the whole time 😂 during her teeth check she was still eating a bit of hay and it kept getting in the picture on the computer 😂

Yea I'll just keep an eye I think. Just worried I've missed something or I will miss something . I've forgotten a lot of normal things I knew from before about basically everything, including rabbit care and health. Really don't want to miss something coz my brains being slow. I managed to remember what hay and forage they liked though 😂

I get why the change is perturbing but on face value you have a 9 year old beautiful bunny of about the right weight who is eating hay like its going out of fashion  I'm sure you won't miss anything, if you're worried, you ask, like you did yesterday. Go easy on that brain of yours, its been through a lot ❤️ & enjoy lots of bunny cuddles

Aw, Clementine being a secret softie ❤️ I think I'd find her just having had a health check and her vet saying to just keep an eye on it reassuring. It is quite a bit of weight, though, so I can see why you're worried, especially if she was actually getting more pellets than normal, but she was away from home and also not getting her apparently delicious hay; it might have affected her in some way. Did they notice anything at the boarding place about her appetite or her seeming off? Did they ever weigh her there? I would think if there was a problem they'd have seen something and let you know.

I'd just keep an eye on what happens with her weight now she's home again and getting her usual care and diet, and take it from there. It certainly doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with her appetite if she kept munching hay during her check up 😂 We're always here if you have any questions or concerns or can't remember something, no matter how small or simple, so try to be gentle with yourself if you can and give yourself time. I'm glad you have your special girl and cute little Willoughby back home again with you ❤️

Chibbs lost weight in the last couple of years, from about 9, she went from 2.2 to 1.9, but you wouldn't have noticed. She bounced back to 2.0 the week before she died for some reason!

I'd just keep an eye on it, it's worth getting her back to routine :)
