Casper & Saar

I have just been reading up on Horse Tail. What an awesome plant it is ❤️ . I never knew. I might have to overcome my tea aversion & try some myself

Aww, Boo  That's a lovely photo of her enjoying the horsetail. I've seen it in people's gardens here sometimes, too, but not outside them. I did find a lot of it in an alley yesterday, though! I took some home with me, but I can't find it (I'm sure I put it in my pocket), so I don't know what Casper thinks. I'll get some more later!

What did you find out about it? I'd never even heard the name before, let alone know what it is! She recommended it for his arthritis, in combination with rosemary.

Ahh yes, forage has the ability to migrate from place to place - it will turn up somewhere I'm sure 🤣

well this is the AI summary but it does reflect what I read on other sites

Horsetail's main benefits stem from its rich silica content, which supports bone health, strengthens hair and nails, and promotes collagen production for skin health. It also has powerful diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding kidney function, relieving joint pain, and helping to eliminate toxins from the body. Additionally, its antioxidants help fight free radicals, and it has been used traditionally for wound healing and supporting the urinary system.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll find a bunch of dried out horsetail somewhere someday 🤣

Thank you for the info, it sounds like a very helpful plant! And like it could be good for Saar, too, yes. I'll get some more today and see whether they like it (y)

I really hope they like it - please report back. I wish we'd known about it earlier, sounds like it would have benefitted Sophie & Boo too

We had to move Casper's laser therapy from next week to today as his arthritis was bothering him. He was (among other things) having trouble reaching his cecos and keeping himself clean underneath, which is not something he's ever had trouble with before. The vet recommended we start doing his laser therapy weekly now instead of every other week, so hopefully that'll help. His arthritis really has started getting noticeably worse since we lost Sophie... Before then, it never seemed to trouble him much as long as he had his Metacam and laser therapy, but he started falling over while washing himself the last day Sophie was with us. I think the grief and stress must've taken a toll on his little body, poor boy.

I have some photos, though:

They sit like this a lot, with his head on hers. It's really sweet:

Last night, though, she wanted more and tucked herself underneath him as if she isn't twice his size, haha:

I guess we know who the mattress/pillow is in this relationship.

Little Casper  Grief must take its toll. I hope the additional laser therapy (& his physio, horsetail etc) can keep him comfortable & a bit more upright. His face in that last photo is priceless. they are a really cute & loving couple - you've captured them beautifully

Thank you ❤️ He was pretty surprised to suddenly have a Saar under him, haha. He's still really enjoying the horsetail. Apparently my brother has lots of them in his garden that he always gets rid of, so he's given the ones he currently had to Casper and will keep saving them for him.

The horsetail sounds like a great herbal remedy and it is wonderful your brother has some in his garden and will save it for the bunnies. With your mother’s bounty the bunnies are very lucky to have so many loving family members in addition to their wonderful human parent.
I wonder if Sophie using Casper as a pillow (mattress at times) kept his joints warm which helped his arthritis?? I hope he gets relief from his extra laser treatments.
My oldest bunny was Amigo who was over 14 when I lost him. He started to fall over when he first stood up, yet once he took a few hops he did much better.
The photos of Casper and Saar are all lovely. They have the best life with you!😍

Aw, he's a little man with a large heart isn't he? ❤️ Saar reminds me of those big dogs that think they're lap dogs--they insist to be on or under you at all times!

My Netherland Dwarf Charlie must have spent 3 or 4 years falling over cleaning himself before he eventually went: he died in 1998 when he was almost 11. We never took him to the vets because he seemed fine otherwise :) Be a different story now: I reckon we could've got record bunny age out of that rabbit, he was awesome :D Chibbs got a bit over-exuberant on the lawn this morning and fell over herself a bit :)

Barrie likes to shove his head places. Not always sensible places. Poor Chibbs XD

I agree with Cinnabun, Saar is like one of those big lap dogs :D

Yes, I really appreciate how much my family is willing help with the buns. We're very lucky ❤️

Ah, I never would've thought of that... I guess there's no better way to keep your joints warm than having another bunny on top of you, is there! The physio did suggest getting a heat lamp for him, but I've read too many stories about them causing fires, so that doesn't feel safe.

Aww, old man Amigo ❤️ I'm glad he did better once he'd taken a few hops.

Aw, thank you so much ❤️

That's a very apt description of him ❤️ I can definitely see the similarity between Saar and those big dogs who think they're small dogs :ROFLMAO:

It sounds like Charlie must've been a very healthy bun aside from the falling over ❤️ Aww, over-exuberant Chibbs.

Oh, Barrie :ROFLMAO:

The other day Saar did her first flop since she came here ❤️

And this is her project. It used to be a water hyacinth tunnel that Sophie and Casper had for years, but since Saar has arrived she has made it her mission to destroy it. It's now in several pieces all over the room:

I made them a bed yesterday:

PXL_20250928_191057685.jpg

The edges are lumpy and it doesn't lie flat because I put too much stuffing in one side, so it's not going to win any prizes, that's for sure :ROFLMAO: And I'm not sure why the fabric in the middle is all wrinkly when all the layers were nice and flat when I was sewing. But it's my first attempt, and Saar went to sit in it right away when I put it on the floor, and they seem to like it, so I'm considering it a win (y) It's velour on top and fleece on the bottom, so it's nice and soft! Let's see how long it takes them to destroy it :ROFLMAO:

My mum bought a whole box of Saar's beloved syringe feed when she was picking some up at the vets, and of course she now doesn't want it anymore :ROFLMAO: She prefers her pellets now. Casper has been eating it this weekend, though, which is great, because he's having a dental today, so he needed to build some strength.

Well as long as they like the bed, then it's brilliant :D It'll be even more brilliant if it lasts, hmm, more than a week?! XD

never bulk buy for rabbits. Their love for anything is on a gradient against how much effort it is to acquire 🤣

What a lovely set of photos, you'd never guess one bun was elderly & one on palliative care...they looks so sweet. Caspers little curious face❤️
I love saar's first flop & I love that she did it on a bed. She must be feeling v relaxed.

I like your bed❤️ good job. They are not the easiest to sew are they, mine always bunch up or go wonky...but as you reassured me, the buns don't care. I hope it doesn't get chewed. toilet use is kinda inevitable
