Bunny lost interest in veg?

New Kit
Hi,
My boy (9) stopped eating on Thursday. (30th).
I took him straight to the vets and came home with metacam, baytril and emeprid.
These all ran out on Wednesday (other than the metacam) and by then he had returned to eating and pooping normally and getting excited at dinner time, but was generally extra sleepy.
I spoke to the vets yesterday and they said I can stop the metacam and monitor, so I didn’t give any yesterday. Today I was away and came home this evening and he hasn’t finished his breakfast. But he has used the litter tray and eaten his hay. I gave some more painkillers.
This evening I brought his dinner out, he hasn’t touched or been interested in it.
However, he is still eating his hay. I’m sat typing this watching him plow through it all.
I have been feeding more pellets recently.
Should I be concerned ? As he’s still eating his hay, is he just no longer interested in his greens and pellets?

Why were you feeding more pellets recently? Is he still eating the same amount of hay as normal? What do his poops look like? If his digestion is working properly, they should be round and friable, not hard and small. It's encouraging that he is still eating his hay as that is the best food for his digestive system.

How has he eaten today?

Unfortunately it was back to the vets today:(
While he eventually finished his tea last night, he did not finish breakfast or eat hay at all today, bar a mouthful followed by a flop, and then repeating that for a while.
Vet gave two injections (metacam and something to speed up digestion) and we also ordered a blood test for the sleepiness.
I originally increased his pellets as I realised I hadn’t previously been giving him enough.
Since going to the vets he has poked at his hay and passed some semi-normal (small) poops.
Keeping a very close eye on him:(

I'm sorry to read that. Did the vet give you some oral meds to continue the treatment at home? Arranging a blood test was sensible and I hope it shows nothing serious causing the sleepiness.

Bunnies can be so stressful when they are unwell and there is no obvious cause.

I hope he improves soon.

Had a call back from the vet blood tests.
They believe has lymphoma and I’ve been told it’s not a good prognosis and I shouldn’t expect a miracle. I’m heartbroken

I’m taking him in tomorrow for a CT scan and a blood smear (?). But they told me that this is just to know, and not for treatment. And that with his age they would be moving forward with pain management if in his best interest, or having to put him down. Ultimately it’s my decision, and feels like the worst one I’ve had to make.
I’m praying that they are wrong. Obviously they said they can’t tell me for sure over the phone, and tomorrow is to be sure.
He’s my angel boy, this feels it came on so fast.

I am sending you and your boy lots of positive vibes. I hope his lymphoma is not aggressive and you and your vet can manage his symptoms medically for a good amount of time before you need to make a decision.

I am so very sorry. Such a cruel disease. I too hope that if it is lymphoma, then it is not aggressive.

Sending loads of hugs for you vet visit today. I would advise that you take you time to process any information before making firm decisions about anything.

Please let us know how you get on.

Really sorry to hear this, I hope you can get some more definitive answers when you have further testing.

We went back to the vets this morning after he was visibly in pain and unwilling to eat absolutely anything and only wanted to hide.
Sadly a CT scan was not possible as it was £2,000 and that is all my insurance covers.
They did an ultrasound and blood smear and warned me these were not very likely to show anything, and they didn’t. I wish i could afford the CT.
They did another blood test and have him hospitalised, he has an IV and they’re giving him antibiotics, painkillers and critical care.
His white blood cell count has slightly increased since last night which they said is good but that i am not out of the woods of it being cancer.
He still hasn’t eaten on his own, apparently had some energy hopping in and out of his tray but then started trying to eat his mainline so has been put in a cone which he is apparently not happy about.
I can only keep him hospitalised up until me running out of money. Unfortunately the £500 i have already paid will have to be reimbursed to me and put through insurance, so really I only have £1,500 to keep him in.
Trying to arrange the plan for tomorrow.
I asked about picking him up at six but this is not ideal as i would be then at work until one with no one to watch him.
If money allows i will pick him up at two. If not my brother will collect him at twelve.
If he is not better by then i imagine it’s time to consider putting him down.
However, and this is bad of me, i go away Friday-Monday, I can’t cancel.
I hope he is either well, or it is all over by then.

I'm sorry. What a horrible situation to be in. I would take each day as it comes and not try to think too far ahead. Do you know what made the vet suspect Lymphoma with the blood test results?

Thinking of you both and sending him loads of vibes.

I wish I could fully remember. I think my brain shut down as soon as he said the word and the technical stuff just.. didn’t stay in.
He said he had abnormal results across the board and his red and white blood cells were too (high, or low, I cannot remember which), which meant he had cancer, was going into sepsis, or his body could no longer beat an infection- either way he told me to not have much hope. When I asked about this on the phone today I was asked ‘was it the calcium levels that made them say that?’ And I genuinely do not know. So potentially something was wrong there too.
The vet today did not give much more hope beyond the slight increase. But still no incentive to eat on his own.
I think I will take him home tomorrow and watch him the whole time to see if he eats, unless when I go see him he is no better. If he does not eat still then I think it may be time to call it as much as it breaks my heart.
This morning was horrible, he looked really bad and I cannot watch that again.

Is there any update from the vets this morning?
Unfortunately my baby passed away around 10 this morning.
The night hand over was positive. And at 7am I was told he was perking up and I was okay to come collect him at 2.
Unfortunately I got a call at 10:15 saying he had crashed and they were pushing adrenaline(?) and attempting cpr.
I left work and got here at 10:25 where they said they had tried adrenaline again but unfortunately it was time to call it.
I got to stay with him after for around thirty minutes after he was gone to say goodbye.
I have paid for an individual cremation and a foam pawpad, even though he of course has no beans.
I’m heartbroken. This morning was positive. They suspect he did have cancer and was feeling better from the pain meds, but of course it was still there. This all happened so fast, I gave him a ten minute goodbye when I dropped him off. If I knew this would happen I’d stay longer. But on his last night at home he sat and cuddled against my chest for ten minutes. He always liked a love but usually only for a minute. I hope he knew I didn’t abandon him here, or that he didn’t resent me for the meds in the end.
Thank you everyone for all the support in this thread.

I am so very sorry  It is a desperately sad time for you and I am thinking of you. As I said yesterday cancer is a very cruel disease. It is a blessing that animals are unaware of their diagnosis.

Not now, but in time I hope you will remember his life with you as being a lovely positive time. Reaching nine years old is an achievement for any bunny and he sounds to have been very loved. He will certainly have been aware of this.

Sleep tight beautiful bunny ❤️

I am so sorry to hear this sad update :(

That 10 minute cuddle shows how much he loved you so your feelings were clearly reciprocated.

RIP little one x
