Bunny had Ulcer after dental U/D post 35 - pseudomonas aeruginosa

We are at the vets again on Monday.

Her course of antibiotics so hopefully her blood vessels have grown close enough to now absorb this infection herself.

We are finally seeing the bacteria clearing her right eye is pretty much all gone and the left is now FINALLY breaking down/away.

This is photos from yesterday (19/12/25)

Probably not the clearest but she’s starting to get back to Naughty Willow and isn’t sitting as well for drops/medicine unless it’s her metacam or fibreplex lol.

Willow is still precarious with hopping around, although she did jump up on the sofa today which is the first time since this all kicked off….

Sadly she does still have a bulge on that left side too. Hopefully it’ll be good news at the vets on Monday.

Glad to hear she's doing better! I wish I knew more about rabbit health to give some insight on that left eye bulge, but I'll just send loads of vibes that everything goes well on your vet visit ❤️

She is a very pretty bun. I'm glad there has been a significant improvement. It must have been lovely having her jump on the sofa again

That’s okay - just knowing people are here have helped :)

thank you so much! I am guessing as her eye vessels are close to it now that’ll be the anti bitocs dropped but we shall see what they say! Hopefully it’ll be a relaxing Christmas lol.

And doesn’t she know it!

It deffo seems we are on the right track it’s been a long journey and will continue to be I think but she’s been a trooper throughout - Though is still yet to use her bed 😂

And yes! You don’t realise how much you miss it till they don’t do it. Mornings are still lonely without her popping up to say hi. But fingers crossed we will be back there soon!

I think her ulcer is melting :( :( :(

Off course it IS a Sunday too, and off course the vets aren’t open, I have rung the emergency line (same family of vets) but they don’t have any ophthalmologists on so they’d be shooting in the wind so to speak.

I’ve sent an email over to the ophthalmologist as an urgent please see. Hopefully they will pick it up first thing Monday.

ALL this work! ALL this stress and it seems
The worst is happening anyway! I’m still keeping my fingers crossed it is JUST the infection, but it’s weird it’s gone all funny. This left eye started as a small hole in the infection then it’s worked its way from
The middle outwards…..

So this was on Thursday. Both looking good, both clearing up nicely.

Then this is her eyes today (Sunday)

Arrrghhh I am hoping it’s just the way the bacteria is coming away but it looks a little more than that right?

Looks like uveitis has developed

That’s an interesting read she is on antibiotic drops, she’s no longer on the marbocyl because obviously she can’t be on that too long as it affects their guts.

Going to call the ophthalmologist tomorrow. But even tonight it looks different where the bacteria is coming away.

I don’t like that “bubbling” in her eye at all!

The redness is a good thing as it’s her blood vessels going to the bacteria. We’ve been told that’s a good thing and is needed “yay for pink eye” as the vet said.

She saw them on Monday (22nd)

I'm sorry you have more worries with her eyes. Pleased you have got in with the eye dr tomorrow. I hope it goes well

We have seen the vets today.

Sadly she is booked in tomorrow for her eye to be removed. It’s her left one that’s been a pain from the start.

They are really happy with the right, it is slowly slowly healing, but they are going to take a swab of that whilst she is under to make sure the antibiotic drops are still working.

They remain positive she will regain her sight in the better eye, it’ll just be a long journey. But sadly one has to go.

I know it’s the right thing because they’re saying it could rupture, her eye can’t close properly etc etc. It is better to be pros tice
Than reactive…. However I am so sad for her. So sad it’s come to this and angry it’s come to her now loosing an eye.

Please please please send all your well wishes for her tomorrow, that her surgery is a success, and she gets through this.

Ozzie is obviously going to keep her company so I’ll be alone tomorrow fretting at home all day!

My little cutie pie before all this kicked off.

Hugs and vibes for you, Ozzie, and Willow. I hope the procedure goes well ❤️

I'm sorry her eye has to be removed, but I'm glad they caught it now, rather than later, when it would be worse. Sad reality, I'm really sorry 🙁

I hope she'll be back to her normal Willow self in no time

Yes sadly we was given the choice to be pro active as opposed to reactive and I think it is the best decision.

I am just so so sad we’ve had 2 months of drops, pain relief, antibiotics and it’s still come to this.

She is 8 now, she had her birthday during all this, I’m glad she lasted through Christmas although sadly she wasn’t interested in her gifts or opening them so just another kick in the teeth really.

However once it’s done perhaps she can start healing, the pain will be gone, the distorted vision etc etc and perhaps she may get a little bit of willow back.

It’s so silly but during this I’ve been able to be a bit less careless with my phone charger as she’s not as active and as destructive and it’s survived a few nights of it being on the floor oops, but it’s still intact as opposed to being chewed lol.

It’s always the little things… I have not slept a wink.

I've just read your thread, and, gosh, Willow and you are going through a lot... I'm so sorry it's all resulted in her now having to lose her left eye, despite all the amazing and dedicated care you've been giving her throughout this. I'm sending her my very, very best wishes for the surgery, and I hope recovery will be relatively smooth. Sending you my very best wishes, too. Maybe you can use the time Willow and Ozzie are at the vets to get some rest, though I realise you're going to be thinking of her. I think for Willow losing her eye will probably be more of a relief at this point than a problem, and I hope once she has healed things will get better for her again and she'll feel more like her old self.

I'm really so sorry that Willow now needs her eye removed and I'm sending her (and you) lots of good wishes for her op today.

I'm also hoping that after she has recovered from this, she will begin to feel much more like her normal self. I have no experience with this, but I think that is generally the case.

However, I do think it's very sad and I know also that I would be devastated. I also know though that life can be very unfair and rotten at times and that the best way to deal with this is to do the very best you can with what you are presented with. Lots of hugs.

Sending Willow lots of well wishes, I hope her op went well & she recovers well. I bet she'll feel much better in the near future, that eye wasn't doing her any favours.

We have just picked her up - apparently when they started to trim her fur, the eye started to rupture and tear. So I am SO glad they booked her in for it today, because I couldn’t imagine how hard that would be to deal with at home + then the journey so she was in the right place at the right time.

Sadly due to the pressure in her eye, she has lost more blood than they would’ve liked, so they had to clamp and deal with each vessel so she was in for a while.

We are just driving home (well my partner is driving)

She’s very quiet, they fed her recovery, she’s passed poo’s took a treat but everything else she’s turned her nose up at. So I think I’ll be on recovery duty tonight, but once she’s home I’ll see how she goes.

We still have to treat her other eye for this infection, so she is still currently blind but hopefully with continued treatment she will at least get some vision back in one eye.

My only concern is she does have some outer stitches, am I going to have to split her and Ozzie up?? This was not an easy bond when we first got Ozzie, so I am really reductant to split them but obviously I have to do what’s best for willow but I can’t imagine being apart then having to re bond is going to be good for her either .

Is this going to be a case of see if he ignores her I’m assuming I wasn’t expecting inner and outer stitches so it’s thrown me but due to the extra pressure/bleeding they thought it best.

Gosh, sounds like you were just in time. She's had quite the day, poor girl. I think it's promising she at least took a treat. I'm sending her so many vibes, and you as well. I really hope things will get a bit easier for her, and that her other eye will heal well.

I'd personally be reluctant to leave Ozzie with her without supervision, to be honest. If he does chew her stitches, it would only take a moment, even if he previously ignored them. I think if I were in your situation I'd see if I could put a fence or run panels between them when you're not there to keep an eye on them, so they could still see and smell each other. Or I think you mentioned a baby gate, so you could possibly just put them on either side of it just for the times you're not around.

I am thankfully able to WFH, however I do need to sleep at some point which is my worry it only takes seconds for stitches to be nibbled.

She’s very sleepy tonight bless her; though alert. She’s not taken anything from us, I’ll be feeding some recovery soon I think.

My only concern with splitting them up, it’s not just going to be for a night or two it’s 10 days before they’re removed and I think even living side by side in a pen/dog crate whatever that’s going to affect their bond and I think the last thing she needs is to be dealing with re bonding.

Plus where she’s fully blind now. He is going to be her support and comfort blanket.

I just don’t know what’s going to be for the best with this. It’s a tough one for sure
