Bonding Pip to her new friend

😍 good idea to add the castle as an exercise in sharing as well as a fun play thing. They are so lovely together

They look like they have been together for years! Lucky bunnies!!
I was watching them last night. More flopping was had and saw Bumble chewing the fur knots out of Pip's fur that she can't get cos she doesn't have her toothy pegs. I'm not sure Archie ever did that. It was very cute. Her coat is looking so much shinier. 🥰

What a lovely partner to keep her fur looking so healthy!! He is so lucky to have a bunny friend and a family❤️

As you can see it didn't take Bumble long to explore and start enjoying his new castle. 😆 Pip is glad to have it back too she likes the soft blankets. We've added an additional section since these photos. They've been running through both sections and leaping on and off them, which is great to see. I want to add the higher tier next, which we've always called the astronomy tower. 😆 can't wait to have his majesty roaming round the room. I know he's going to get up to mischief!

These pics are so lovely to see, as it's now very clear how well bonded they are. Pip is very willingly sharing her castle with him.

We added the astronomy tower last night. Pip leapt straight up there like it was no bother. Bumble wasn't quite so sure and it took him a while to try. His first attempt he ended up clinging on by his front paws like a cat 😆. I tried to go rescue him, but he got himself unattached. 2nd time round he cleared it easily. Bumble very much seems to enjoy sitting inside the astronomy tower, whereas Pip likes to sit on top whilst he's doing zooming. 😍.
Now just before we went to bed, Pip decided to randomly leap from the top! I'm not sure if she forgot she was a senior bun, or didn't realise how high she was! I don't remember her or Archie ever doing this before. 🫣
Either way she looked surprised when she landed, her front paws bent a little and it looked like she may have hit her chin. 😬. She sort looked like she was doing downward dog.

She started eating straight away and at least she doesn't have teeth so can't have broken those. I'll carry on monitoring her, just in case. She has a vet visit booked in 2 weeks anyway. I swear buns are designed to stress us out.

So before we went to sleep we added another bit of castle, so she has two options for her to jump down onto rather than a flying leap like last night. We've never had senior buns before. I thought she'd sleep more and jump less, but nope. She's not like that at all.

It looks a bit high if Pip jumps from the top. Do you think that sending them away to be bonded was what helped?

Yeah she isn't meant to jump from there. There are two other sections that are half the distance down for her to hop onto. I've attached a photo of the set up now. They've moved the blankets around whilst I've been out today. Oops. The large section wasn't there last night when she decided to fling herself off the top tower. Eek. I just didn't even think she's attempt it because she never has before. I'm not sure she really looked before she hopped off. 😬

Oh yes. I could never had bonded them myself. Pip is just so stubborn and always bouncing around which set him on edge. I would definitely get a rescue to bond buns again even though it was horrid not having them here.

That's a brilliant setup, so pleased for them, sounds like they are really enjoying themselves, and very entertaining for you 😊

Thanks. They have a bridge that we need to add next, but I think it will make the castle too close to the edge and Bumble will try to escape. 😆. So might have to wait until they are free roam for that.

He's still chewing blankets a bit. We never had much of an issue with Archie and Pip never chewed anything. We have cotton rugs, so if he eats it at least its natural fibres, their little blankets are fleece though, but he seems to just bite into holes and pieces rather than eat them. Do you think he might just stop? I'm not sure what else we could use as flooring and Pip likes her fleece blankets to lie on.

Chinook is a right nibbler. Loves to chew little circles out of their beds (& on a recent venture in to our dirty laundry hamper to redesign Bob's work uniform). she hasn't nibbled more solid rugs & only gone to town on the carpet in one place. I'd say she seems a little less chewy now but she defo has trigger items. I can't use towels as I worry about the long threads. When they are on a destructive rampage together, a forage brix from that horse supply place help (more so if eddy is feeling diggy). I get the feeling chinooks nibbling is about pleasure & boredom so i'm not hopeful she will stop. just hope she doesn't ingest - seen no evidence so far. does bumble appear to eat it ever?

Oops I hope Bob wasn't annoyed about his work uniform.
Bumble just seems to like to "test" everything with his teeth first. 😆 the castle, the rugs, my clothes, the blankets, the pen.
He's less chewy than he was, the flooring seems to be when he's trying to chew his way out. I think he has world domination in his mind. I think when he was by himself he was bored.
Mainly doesn't eat it but I have witnessed him eating some teeny bits whilst I've been running over to stop him. 🤦‍♀️.

Sleep more and jump less? Yeah Chibbs does the sleeping part but jumps just as much. She's even started jumping back up onto the windowsill after she stopped when she went blind. When we open the lawn up for them, Matt has to open the spare hutch door before he opens the run or she jumps the foot up to the door and bangs off it, poor kiddo. She gives him proper stink eye XD Can't see, can still glare.

Wow she still jumps onto windowsill even though she's blind? Pip doesn't seem to sleep much at all. She's is say 80% chewing hay, 19% jumping around and 1% asleep. 😆 Bumble is more like 80% snoozing, 10% eating and 10% sprinting and exploring.

The bunnies look lovely snuggling together and exploring the castle. My favorite picture is Pip grooming Bumble. They look very happy together. I am glad you persisted with the bonding even though it must have been awful to not have bunnies at home. It sounds like having a younger husbun has brought out a more youthful Pio!
