Bandido

Jaelyn

Young Bun
Hi, so you might have seen Bandit the buck on several of my posts. Although I call him Bandit his real name is Bandido (which is Bandit is Spanish) Anyhow, Bandit is a very sweet, unfixed, buck. Recently he has been getting out of his cage so we moved him to another on and put Marly in the one Bandit was in. That night when I went to go check on them after feeding the door to the hutch was wide open! Luckily, Marly didn't jump out. 😮‍💨 So, I figured out it wasn't Bandit opening the door, it was just the lock. We always double check the locks before we are done feeding them but we must have not checked those times (?!?!) Anyway, they don't get out anymore and i just wanted to let you guys know because maybe something like this happened to you and your rabbit:)

I use the bigger lobster claw keyring type clasps / swivel snap hooks to make sure that cage / run type doors stay fastened, as the closures they come with don't always catch properly, or can potentially be shaken loose. If you fasten it on one side of the bars / wire with a large split ring, it is permanently there and won't get lost.

I like the idea of the lobster claw clasp. I am going to be housing outside so your thread Jaelyn is a timely reminder for me to sort some security

yeah, I want to put a hook or carabiner there but it doesn't have a hole to slide it in. Luckily, they don't get out anymore so I don't need to worry about either :)

Yeah, good luck housing outside. If you live where it's cold like me you will probably be dealing with frozen waterbottles. I have 2 water bottles for each rabbit so when one freezes I take the one I had inside (that is not frozen) and give it to him/her. Or, you can buy those heated waterbottles but they are very expensive. Did that even make any sense?
