anyone has a bun that drinks water like a whale?

I have a 1 litre water bowl for Knox.
I find I have to refill it twice during hotter days and only once when cooler.
He drinks more water than my dogs

a new question: does your bun Knox also has poo size bigger than an average rabbit? Like the diameter of a nickel?

So 6 yr. ago, I post the above question. That last about 2 to 3 mth., then my bun Andi water consumption returns back to normal. So there is something going on at the diet level at that SPCA

History repeats itself, my newly adopted Bucky is doing the same thing. He is NOT from the same SPCA, he's from an individually owned rabbit rescue. I knew it has to do w/ the diet. So I'm not really worried as I hope in a few mth., his water consumption will go back to normal. But the question what cause this? what's the relation?

I've read it can be because of kidney issues, like if they're getting too much calcium from foods like romaine or dandelion, but I haven't had enough experience to know if this is true.

I want to re-visit this issue once again: in a hypothetical scenario, if a rabbit was not given enough water, every so often, would that force the rabbit to change his routine and make him drink more water than need WHEN water is given?

as after 2 mth. of adopting this bun, his water consumption has gradually move back to normal. When he first arrive him, I was bonding him w/ the female bun. At the time, there is a cotton towel at the corner of his pen, so as he pee on it, it soaks the towel. And the towel becomes soaking wet in a short period of time. The only other time I've seen this is w/ my SPCA bun 6 yr. ago, when I first created this thread 6 yr. ago.

An additional concern is when he pee a lot, immediately after he pees, he turn around lick up all the urine that he just pee out. Now, I have other rabbits all these years that does lick his / her own urine. But this bun is not just licking a little, he is lapping all of it rapidly, and from this link, it suggest there is no water supply / not enough water.

now, after 2 mth., he's no longer doing that, and his poo size has changed from gigantic to large, and his water consumption is somewhat high, but no longer drinking like a whale. So his situation is just like the other bun I adopted from SPCA 6 yr. ago.

Can I get you people's 2nd opinion in this matter?

Water can not be stored, so I doubt that a lack of enough water leads to excessive consumption later on.
If you look at people who don't drink enough, they need to learn to drink more, that there is plenty of water normally doesn't do the trick.

With that licking urine, I would rather (unprofessionally) expect some kind of deficiency, mineral or trace elements or whatever, rather than the water being the issue.

My free roam house bunny boy drinks A LOT, rarely see Dotty at the bowl, blood works were inconclusive but could hint at a kidney issue, vet said best course of action now is to just provide enough water. Also the salt lick gets used more than that of my other rabbits. Of 5 rabbits he is the only one with that issue, they all get the same feed (mostly forage), are outside during daytime and can graze, lick and nibble what they like. Sometimes I noticed one or the other rabbit starting to eat the plaster from the wall for a limited time, I reckon that is to compensate for some kind of deficiency.

but suppose the local SPCA forgot to fill up the water, and the water bowl is empty. If it happens from time to time, would that lure a rabbit to drink more water when a water bowl is available?
