Summer housing consideration - would love your thoughts.

I think rabbits are much hardier than guinea pigs for the cold. When I had rabbits outdoors they grew coats like woolly mammoths and (voluntarily!) sat outside in ridiculously cold temperatures.

Will my house ever be safe for other bunnies after an EC infection?

I definitely understand the fear. My view is that the only places that a rabbit could come into sufficient contact with EC spores that could be a problem would be areas where a rabbit eats, drinks and pees. I think you must have done enough by now to eradicate it to an environment that...

Rabbit not eating and it's Sunday late afternoon

I would definitely syringe water, as that is the most important thing for getting things moving. Also do you have any peppermint tea? I don't think simethicone is normally recommended anymore for rabbits, as their guts don't behave like human ones.

No xray for bun who may have blockage. Second overnight stay at vets in 3 days. Advice appreciated.

So sorry to see this. I missed your update before.

I've not had experience with Gabapentin in rabbits, but in guinea pigs it makes them really vacant and spaced out. Sounds like you could really do without rabbit stress right now! 🤗

    Bloating

Yes, if you are noticing by a process of elimination that specific vegetables are no good for him, just don't feed them. It can even be the case that rabbits can't tolerate pellet food (which is very concentrated), but hopefully that isn't the case here. If you can't find fresh forage, or he...

My bunny died after a spay, i feel like vets neglected her :(

I'm so sorry. I'm gutted for you. I'm definitely no expert, but I think they are normally left in the care of a vet nurse afterwards, as Zoobec said.

    To euthanise or not?

I am definitely of the belief that some rabbits cannot cope with pellets. They are very concentrated. I was surprised when I had to take my bunnies off pellets altogether that they didn't lose weight. They had a variety of different hays and dried forage, and their weights remained stable.

    To euthanise or not?

It kind of got to the stage where I was able to catch it easier, so I managed to avoid any further emergency vet trips. My vet allowed me to have gut stimulant meds at home, and they were also on long term pain relief (which was the most helpful thing of all).

    To euthanise or not?

I'm really sorry to see this. The thing with stasis is, as you probably know, it can be a reaction to pain anywhere in the body, so in that sense it is a secondary reaction, and it can be difficult to find out what it is to. When I had two rabbits that went in and out of stasis constantly, it...

    Bouts of Stasis

I'd definitely try to ensure that she is close to hay and water at all times. I remember when I had indoor bunnies, I ended up having to put litter trays in various places. Water intake is important, as it definitely helps keep the guts moving.. What has the vet said? Have other causes been...

Insurance - is it worth it?

This is an old thread, but my view on insurance generally is that you get it if you wouldn't be able to find the money for what you might need it for. If you have the savings available for a very large vet bill (and can top that up constantly), you don't need it. If you don't have the savings...

Bunny struggling to recover after bloat

I hope you were able to enjoy your holiday. No wonder seeing the vets bill brought it all back.

Anyone know of any super-fine texture hay at the moment?

Thanks. Yes, I'm still on the hunt really, and I have enough hay to open some kind of shop at this stage! Meanwhile, both pigs do at least seem to be enjoying the variety. The problem will come when I have to decide which one to buy again! The hay they definitely don't eat I will have to...

    Urine infection?

Yes, they are quite expensive. They are useful for picking up trace blood, as bright red blood is obvious. But as Shimmer said, orange pee looks very clearly orange on a tissue, and pee with a lot of blood in it isn't at all orange - it's pinky red if very diluted, or bright red if there is...

    Urine infection?

Dark orange urine is really common. That looks orange to me rather than bloody. But you can buy urine test sticks online that will pick up even trace levels of blood.

Need 10p to ring the cruelty man. (if you remember phone boxes)

Molly pig is nodding in sympathy, as she just got her fur cut with the clippers. I swear it grows while I watch it. Reminds me of the Playdoh Barber Shop with how fast it grows.

Bunny is sick with unknown cause - going on weeks

I totally agree. Long term Metacam can be hugely helpful. Best of luck with it, and let us know what happens.

Bunny is sick with unknown cause - going on weeks

Yes, I would definitely say it's a case of try everything, because any kind of pain anywhere in the body can cause stasis. When I had bunnies they were going in and out of stasis constantly due to EC, but there could be an inner ear infection going on or something. Oh, thinking about it, were...
