    Is my rabbit strange??!

Lord Trellis. I really did learn something today, from this ancient thread. The pill woodlice, which since a kid, I've always thought looked like Armadillos, are also known as armadillo woodlice! I never knew that. Their Latin name is Armadillidium vulgare meaning "little armadillo".

Can anyone tell me please, what breed is my rabbit? we suspect half dutch.... but what is the other half???

He is very sweet! Did you have him from a baby? Dogs, since time began have gravitated towards people and coexisted, but bunnies on the other hand have always run from people - it's the way it is. Sitting with rabbit is like being with nature, I just enjoy watching them, they are good...

    Is my rabbit strange??!

This thread is 16 years old!!!! I actually mis-read and thought you said "I don't eat spiders though"! Love woodlice, they are like mini armadillos :) I used to get really upset finding them dead, every day, in the bunnies outside water bowl. I tried putting stuff in the bowl so the woodlice...

Using a dog pen as a Feeding station

I did used to get papers from the library! So many in fact that I got over-run for a while and took a load to a wildlife sanctuary. I'm in a different county to the library and don't pass that way, so no longer get papers. I'll get by though - the supermarket has loads and I'll be frugal!

Using a dog pen as a Feeding station

Newspaper is a good idea, I scoop out the wet patches in the sawdust (wood shavings) everyday and completely change weekly, but with newspaper I'm guessing you'd need to change it daily - so I'd need a good source of newspapers! Waitrose is good for that ;)

    New outside area help

Hi Omi, only the girl digs, and she loves having the dig area, she vanishes for ages then pops up out of a hole it's funny, it also means that she leaves the rest of the garden alone. She doesn't want to go in there every day, when she's been digging she sleeps well, she is completely nuts, so...

Using a dog pen as a Feeding station

Thank-you Shimmer. You're right, I also think the wire grate will still let all the hay (and sawdust) out - but a strip of wood like you say, skirting the bottom would work. A large box would be the easiest and cheapest option, but mine would shift that in no time! I'm back as Feral btw - I...

    New outside area help

In the end I got rid of their hutch, so they now have two runs, one is muddy and for digging and the other is safe with a wire floor, I covered the wire with playground grade wood chips. The runs are connected to the house, so they don't need a hutch. When I'm out I can shut off the digging run...

    New outside area help

I actually have some solid mesh panels that are from an omelet run top, almost enough to do the job, I have 5, I'm just one short - I might be able to pick one up on ebay - they have quite big holes approx. 3 inches by 2 inches, my only worry was that she could get her head stuck, but that's not...

    New outside area help

Thanks Shimmer. I think a second hand wendy house could be good :) Mine also digs impressive tunnels! I can't keep up with it, if I back-fill in the morning 3 areas, they are back and bigger than ever when I get back. I'm thinking slabs are maybe not the best option as it gets so hot in our...

    New outside area help

The other option isn't to put the new set up on slabs but to put to dig up turf and lay mesh down, then recover with turf, has anyone done this? Does it hurt their claws/teeth if they try to dig?

    New outside area help

Can anyone recommend a small shed/hutch and run set up that I can put on slabs (or if someone cold suggest something else that is secure?). My bunnies currently have the run of the house and tube from the house to a hutch and run, the problem is one bunny is tunnelling day and night and I have...

    Hay Shed Blended Boxes

I ordered blended boxes first but found that one box had almost all oat, so now I order separately. Mine love the rye, it smells nice too! so I get 2 boxes of timothy and one of rye.

    Bonded rabbits sleep apart

I've posted before about bonding rabbit, we got a new friend for our 7 year old rabbit when he lost his brother a few months ago. Him and his brother were so close, I didn't think he would be able to live alone. Anyway... here we are, he's bonded with a little ball of energy who is 18 months old...
