    Bugsy's vet trip tomorrow

He's eating hay already! We've only been home an hour and a half! :)

    Bugsy's vet trip tomorrow

We're back from the vet. Everything went according to plan - I stayed with Bugs until he was asleep and then took him home straight after he woke up (we were at the vet about 45 mins). No Seizures!! :) He's groggy but much more alert than I expected. Because I've been taking him to the vet...

    Bugsy's vet trip tomorrow

Bugsy managed to get to the vet and back without a seizure. :) He's going to be neutered on Thursday and I'm going to stay with him while he's anaesthetised and take him home straight after (still asleep). The vet confirmed the cause of the seizures to be epilepsy and said he's going to use gas...

    Bugsy's vet trip tomorrow

After speaking to the lady who runs my local rabbit rescue I have found out that my vet has another BEW patient that has seizures. And apparently this other rabbit needs regular dentals so he's used to anaesthetising epileptic rabbits. I'm taking Bugsy tomorrow for his vaccinations and to...

    Epilepsy or EC?

Would it be cruel to keep him as an unneutered single rabbit? He's so friendly with me and seems very happy and relaxed. I'm terrified about him going under GA for what is in essence an elective procedure. He's a very special rabbit and at the moment I'm thinking I'd rather keep him as a single...

Epilepsy: Anyone had a rabbit with this?

My Bugsy has seizures - they appear to be brought on by stress. I'm watching with interest to see different treatment options for rabbits with this problem.

    Epilepsy or EC?

And for once I'm being sensible - I adopted Bugsy to be a friend for Preya but until I work out the reasons for Bugsy's seizures and until I can have him neutered they're in cages next to each other so they can get to know each other and I'm treating them both with panacur. I think they will...

    Epilepsy or EC?

Probably not possible because it's so quick. I think I'm going to bite the bullet tomorrow though - one of the vets at our practice is very progressive and has successfully tried quite novel treatment methods with my rabbits before. I am thinking I might take Bugsy to him tomorrow to discuss all...

    Epilepsy or EC?

That's reassuring. I phoned the vet and said I was worried about bringing him in and he said that as the (locum) vet had health checked him on Saturday and Bugsy seems well in himself then we should treat with panacur and then investigate further if the seizures continue. I'm happy with that and...

    Epilepsy or EC?

Do you think I'll be able to have him neutered? He wasn't neutered by the rescue because Elaine is closing the rescue down because she can't afford to run it anymore. Obviously I'll wait until after he's been treated but supposing it's something he'll have forever I'll want him to be neutered...

    Epilepsy or EC?

Thanks Jane. The rescue hadn't noticed anything odd but she may not have noticed if he had a seizure because it's over so quickly and her rescue rabbits are outside. She has said I can bring him back to the rescue but I'm not going to - I don't think it's right to return a rabbit as 'faulty'...

    Epilepsy or EC?

Thanks. I won't know if my vet has experience with rabbit seizures until I ask him - he certainly has a lot of experience with rabbits and I know he has some contacts who are rabbit specialists. I'm a bit concerned about the vet trip because I don't want the stress of the journey to bring on...

    Epilepsy or EC?

I adopted a 4 month old BEW Nethie-X from Tameside Rabbit rescue on Saturday. (He's called Bugsy) He had a seizure on the way home from the rescue which I thought was caused by heat stroke as it was very humid on Saturday. The seizure lasted about 20 seconds and he recovered within about a...

    Dexter :(

Dexter passed away this morning. He'd been suffering with Pasteurella for about a month and seemed to be doing ok on antibiotics. Yesterday he had suddenly deteriorated and was struggling to breathe due to the amount of mucus. He went to the vet where he stayed overnight. The vet had thought...

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

Lump results are back and it's Papilloma virus. The vet said it should clear up on its own but there's a small chance it could become cancerous. The vet did say he'd only seen that happen twice in thirty years of practice so it's probably ok. He said just watch out in case there is dribbling or...

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

Yes it was Zithromax. Echinacea sounds good - how much should I give him and where can I get it? I think the depocillin is working - he's been ok throughout apart from the snot but today he really fought with me when I gave him the injection and then ran and jumped around his run like a mad...

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

We've had the results and it's Pasteurella. Good news is that the culture showed it should be sensitive to pretty much every antibiotic going plus his snot is now runny not thick and sticky so he seems to be improving. We're going to keep going with the depocillin injections for 2 weeks then try...

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

Dexter's had his endoscopy now. The vet said there wasn't much snot today but there was greenish mucous at the top of both nostrils. We're going to start him on depocillin injections while we wait for the results of the culture which should come back on Tuesday.

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

It's both nostrils - he just sneezed and I saw thick white snot fly out of both. Yuck. :(

Endoscopy for Dexter next :( - U/D Pasteurella

Thanks, I'm taking them both in this evening to stay the night at the vet because I can't get there in the morning. It'll be a bit of luxury for them - the vet hospital has air-con which will be better for them than the fan they've got here. This heat is nice for me but it's been a real effort...
