Shed housing questions

I’m considering carpeting the shelf levels and ramps in my new sheds for extra coziness and ease of ascending the ramps. For those who have done this how did you secure the carpet to minismise ease of Bunny teeth accessing the corners/edging. I was thinking of Velcro but is there a better way?

Like this ramp on the MPH site:

Also does anyone have photos of the edging they’ve used for their lino flooring? I’ve found a nice cheap non slip lino offcut but can’t work out how to secure it at the edges. I have limited DIY skills.

My son has suggested double sided carpet tape - I’d obviously watch for chewing?

Wondering if I could also use the tape to attach some cut to shape vet bed fleece to the Ikea beds and my MPH corner fort and ramp?

You could have a look at tiling edge strips for the lino. I've used them in my hutch around the hole on the top floor and the lino has just fitted into the gap between the floor and the edge. All you need is a saw to cut them to size, a bit of thought on which way the angle goes if joining at corners and nails to secure them.

That’s a good idea, I’ll take a look. A bonus would be it would seal the shed gaps where spiders get in, I like the idea of that! How do you attach them?

That looks really lovely. The trouble with carpet is all the hay sticks to it.

It does look lovely - wish it was mine! My idea re the hay thing was to have all the hay containers on the ground floor on the lino - I know they will drag some “upstairs” but perhaps not as much.

I'd have to check once it's light but I think it was penny nails. Might also be able to use flat head screws instead depending on the surface you're trying to secure to but I'd have to check with the family's diy specialist if that's true or not.

Do you think this would work:

I’ve used something similar - but flat backed - to cover the joins in the plywood liner but have run out for the last bit so need to go back to B&Q anyway. I can paint it to match everything else then (though what a fiddly job that will be).

This is what I’d suggest - glued down probably. I’ll be using something similar to cover the join between the Lino and the wall of my playhouse!

For painting, cut your lengths, then paint before putting hem down!

I’m so thick, yes paint first duh

I picked those quadrant strips up on my way home tonight and lino is ordered so I’m all set, just need a reasonable weather day off and I might be able to get it done. My carpenter is coming next week to put in the shelf, ramp, mesh door and windows and to build the aviary. I’m quite excited about the whole thing.

For lino we've used a staple gun / staples and gone as close to the edges as possible x

Good idea - I might staple for extra security - and I love using the staple gun, it’s very satisfying somehow ;)

I just used double-sided tape, but it's on a small level surface:

Couldn't find a picture without a bunny on it

Well it’s good to actually see it in use with a bunny on it!

My carpenter is coming on Thursday and Friday this week. I was going to fit the lino on the ground floor before he gets here but the weather has scuppered that. I don’t want muddy footprints all over it if the weather, as is likely, is bad while he’s doing the work anyway. I’m going to have to remove the ramp to fit the lino and refit afterwards.

I’m very excited about it though! My new MPH shed are getting nearer to delivery as well :)

I’ve used wooden batons to hold down the lino. I’ve made the lino very slightly too big so that it goes just a cm or so up the edge of the shed then screwed the wood on. I had a couple of carpet tiles in there and used double sided sticky tape to secure it.

This is pretty much what I have planned re the lino. I don’t have a shelf and ramp to carpet now (my carpenter let me down  ) so I’m just using vet bed in the beds and on top of my MPH fort and ramp. Wondering if the double sided carpet tape I have would stick that down - has anyone done that with vetbed?

My lovely son and dad stepped in this afternoon, they’ve built me a wood and mesh inner panel to step over (to stop bunnies running out when I open the door) and will finish the inner door tomorrow

I used car upholstery spray glue to secure the carpet tiles down.

This is how I've water proofed the wooden floor section on a level.

Have you got that lino curved up at the edges? Under the baton? I can’t tell from the picture and a lot of people have mentioned doing this - I was just going to keep it flat but I am wondering if I should try and angle it up to protect the shed floor underneath?

Doing the lino in the morning. Then I get to do the fun stuff - setting up all the fun tunnels, hides, litter box/hay racks, plus bunting and battery lights. Looking forward to that bit!

No angle as this isn't lino - this is a click floor. If you can angle the lino up the wall a bit it might be worth it

When I first did the bun shed I used wooden beading around all the edges and I've done that for the inside buns too. With my buns they were constantly digging and chewing at the beading and eventually got them off. It was only thin beading though not like the one used above.
I replaced the lino in one of the hutches with self adhesive lino tiles and they havnt bothered with it at all.
I've currently had to strip back the newest shed i built because of a leak so I will be fitting new carpet and lino. This time in going to your them down and see if they bother with it. If they do i will be using battens.

That is my worry - that they’ll constantly be trying to chew them. Ours are quite thick and they are curved so I’m hoping they can’t get any purchase.

It’s going ok so far - very fiddly and taking about 4 times as long as we anticipated - like most jobs!!!!
