Gotcha Day for Arabella!

You may have heard of the rabbit lectures Frances Harcourt Brown did for bunny owners? Well she did one on EC. In it she had videos of my Boo scanning. I was a bit freaked out thinking it meant Boo had EC. Turns out FHB said she used to believe scanning was (sometimes) caused by EC but didn't anymore. Hopefully its just eyesight probs. Boo scans a lot when spooked or in unfamiliar territory but you can go days without seeing it. Does her fosterer recall scanning? Do you know if she was given panacur by the RSPCA - some rescues do

Good luck bunny bonding ! I start panacur a day or two before bonding. i've been working off fHB advice who was my vet for many years. Its 4 years since I bonded bunnies so checked this out with my new vet last week (she has just moved to the practice FHB set up and has since retired from)& she advised I go with what I'd been doing previously. My current vet isn't a specialist but is rabbit interested & savvy xx

I had not :-/ going to have a google, I think I’ve heard of her though.
See I’m just going off having seen it when working at a vets and showing a vet and he said E.C so have lapizole so I’ve always followed it but not really looked into it.
She does act like something takes over her, like she’s doing something and forgets, scanning starts then she snaps back “into the room” it’s like she’s a robot lol.

The fosterer didn’t say anything and I felt rude (silly I know) pointing it out. But to get info I asked about worming and she said no she’s not been wormed. So as I had an unopened lapizole I thought two birds....

Hoping I’m dong the right thing then. Did boo stop scanning or does it still happen sometimes? Xx

When she is inside she rarely does it, only when she spooks which is rare as not much to spook her here. I know what you mean about robotic & also back in the room. FHB did explain why bunnies scan to me but both me & OH are struggling to articulate it (nothing new there). I think you're doing the right thing xx

Haha! Thank you that’s all really useful though.

Oh good :) she’s being good about taking it on pellets so that’s a help too. Thought I’d google about cats and apparently they can get it too, so they can’t meet her for the first 14 days or so either which is a shame xx

So we are rubbish at making decisions, we ended up last night picking a name out of a hat from the three (Ada, Grace, Ada-Grace).

Here she is, Grace <3

I’ve been sitting doing a colouring book in her room so she can get used to me. No touching yet she says lol, but she’s flopped close to me about a foot away so that’s something I think. She also loves a hard flop so much so she flopped one way to the other and rolled down the ramp in the hutch! Oops! Lol. She seemed fine after.

Starting to name train now too and help build trust hopefully :)

It was meant to be  It suits her

Re the scanning, it can be something and nothing. I am glad you're doing the long course of lapizole, as a scanning bunny I had went blind with E.C. - this was before the Panaur/Lapizole came into being.

Aww I'm so pleased she's living with you now. She really is a beautiful bunny. I have to say Grace was my personal preference for her new name!

Loads of bonding vibes for when you're ready to kick things off. They do say male/female pairings are supposed to be easier so hopefully you'll have an easier time of it this time round. The bonding gods certainly owe you a favour!

Aww, I think so too <3

Yeah exactly it’s better safe than sorry plus it means she’s wormed now to so also a good thing.
I didn’t know anything about E.C until I worked in a vets so I’ve been catching up on it all. X

Ahh thank you :-D

Yes definitely think it’s time we had an easier bond! I’m really hoping the male/female being easier plays in our favour especially with Luther taking a long time to Trust Truffle at the beginning. Thank you <3

 she looks like she's made herself at home very quickly with that snuggly flop! x

Aw thank you!
I think she’s definitely settled fast into her room, probably owed to moving around so much in her 18 months. Still got a way to go before she trusts us more, but I think she will get there :) x

I’ve been spending a few hours a day with her to try and get her used to me. She’s coming along and comes over to see me and stands on me a bit etc so all good. Sometimes she suddenly freaks out about things she knows aren’t scary, my feet being one, suddenly she sneaks up on them and if I move she runs away in such fear!

We tried the cats upstairs to meet her on Sunday after her clean bill of health at the vets. She was so different to Luther when he met them. She was terrified bless her, which I’m not used to. They just looked around but didn’t do anything but she didn’t like their sudden random movements. Before I took them out after a bit I held the cats still/down (they are super soppy so don’t worry lol) to let her sniff them each, she did come over and do that which was good and brave.

I’m wondering if I should continue bonding to her myself and get her used to the cats first, or just introduce Luther to the bonding room as planned and start now and hope through him she will get used to the cats and me.....

Haha!! Yep so far she can sploof at the bottom, it’s her signature move hehe!

No, that’s her Lamby toy for snuggling on a cardboard shelfy thing :)

I reckon she will feel more confident when bonded with Luther. Lovely cats -do they go outside? I am not a cat person but just curious, oops, we know what that did!

Yeah that’s what we were wondering. We discussed it last night and decided tomorrow Luther will come up and meet her.
Aw thank you, they are half British Shorthair brothers and bless them only share one brain cell so at the moment they are indoor cats. But we are building a special fence similar to zoos where it comes back on itself so they can’t get out the garden, I know I sound a bit mad but when I did let them out I saw them playing on the main road and after working in a vets I’ve seen too much!
But they are stimulated by lots of toys climbing things and of course running away from scary bunnies haha!!

Lol! Exactly ;-)
