Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stasis Recovery

Happy to report Rodney's eating is slowly picking up.

He's going for forage mostly but I've mixed it with his hay to encourage more hay eating and also a tiny bit of readigrass.

He is really enjoying Rosewood meadow hay cookies. I dont think they're much good for teeth as no long bits but am hoping it will help him with increasing poop size and output.

We're supporting him with feeding still and have managed to work back up to about 9mls 3 x a day and a couple extra ml whenever we handle him.

I've ordered a hay sampler from Small Pet Select to see if a new hay type will encourage more eating. We usually get a 9kg bale from
Www.timothyhay.co.uk but havent varied it for ages so maybe he might like that.

Waiting for blood test results now but have taken spring greens out of breakfast for now. I had no idea they were so calcium heavy and because they're so dense I'd imagine it was a lot for them. They were having one massive leaf each a day so swapped for a small romaine leaf instead.

Pleased to hear that Rodney is improving and I hope that there are no worrying findings in the blood test results when you receive them :)

Most of the blood tests are back just waiting for the ones to check for EC.

Our exotic vet isnt working today but another has called to update us. Once again Rodney is a slight mystery.

He has almost max limit long term calcium but the lowest short term calcium. He also has high creatine levels but the vet isnt sure if this is due to stress from his sedation as he doesnt know if the sample was taken before or after his procedure. He said his organs are working fine.

However I've had a google (probably a bad idea) and am now seriously worried that Rodney has kidney issues.

He is still perky and eating and drinking a bit more. The vet said the rest of the results would be with us Friday and he seems to be leading towards EC as a diagnosis.

I know its hard not to think of all the 'what ifs' but until you have all the results back try to focus on the fact that Rodney is feeling better within himself now. He will be living in the moment, blissfully unaware of any ongoing health concerns. As long as he is feeling well for him all is OK. Even if he is found to have EC and/or renal problems there are treatment options available to manage the condition, even if it cannot be cured x

Thank you so much you are right.

He did his first binkies and zoomies last night once it cooled down so injust need to hold that in my head.

He also tossed the Cc syringe at my head

No EC for Rodney which I'm very happy about.

The Senior Exotic Vet is going to look over his results and recommend a diet change for him if needed. They'll also just give all his results a once over which is reassuring.

He seems more himself than ever today. Chasing Primrose off his blanket etc. We're going to start stepping down his metacam now from a 10kg dose to 7.5kg each time and see how we go.

He'll have to stay on the gut stimulants until he passes the foreign object in his large intestine which might be a few weeks and possibly the metacam too as itll be uncomfortable for him.

Still racking my brains on what he might have eaten. But then I have seen him eat chunks of fur he's taken off Primrose before as if its food so maybe it'll be that.

Plesaed to hear that the EC test was negative and it must be reassuring to know that you have an Exotics Specialist overseeing Rodney's case. I hope he continues to do well :)

Rodney is pretty much back to normal now. Just need to talk to the vet about easing him off all his meds and hoping the improvement remains.

Unfortunately as our worries for him ease. Primrose managed to get her munchers on a rubber band this evening so we're now on 24hr poop watch for her.

We're so tired. My sister in law offered to come in and do a feed/medicine cycle for us so we could get a bit more sleep one morning but Rodney is so feisty it takes two and with the pandemic it just doesnt feel right.

And still some people think that Bunnies are 'low maintenance' Pets !!

I am glad to hear that Rodney is doing so much better. Hopefully Primrose will have chomped up the elastic band into tiny bits and the highly acid environment of her stomach will dissolve most of it and everything will keep moving through. Sending lots of poo vibes x
