Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Update 5/12 Gemini head tilt.

I am wondering if it may be that a different abx could prove to be more beneficial. Also, I am afraid I cannot recall if he has ever had any treatment with Fenbendazole. As you know EC can also cause head tilt. I really hope that Gemini will start to improve ASAP. In the meantime I dont know if you may find any of these links useful. You have probably already read them, but I'll post then again just in case

Hello Jane. Gemini has not had any EC medication and my vet will not prescribe it at this time. Gemini responded to abx in the past so I am to keep him on his current abx to give it more time. I have been instructed to increase his Medicam dosage to help with inflammation.
Thank you for sharing the links again. I may have had these in the past, yet it is always nice to have them handy.

Today marks 2 weeks since Gemini became I'll and over a week since he began to show head tilt. His tilt stopped progressing and has improved in the last two days. He is eating a few pellets and nibbling some hay. He also is enjoying his syringe feeds. He will continue meds and fluids. We would appreciate some vibes for continued progress.

So pleased to hear that Gemini has improved, and is managing to eat a bit better. Sending more vibes for your brave boy, and hope he continues to show progress xxx

Pets Mum, Zoobec, Kattymieoww,

Thank you for the additional vibes.

I was so glad when I posted that he was improving. The next morning, I noticed he stopped eating his pellets and hay once again. Yesterday I thought he looked like his head tilt may be returning too. He is still on all his meds so I don't know why he stopped improving. On the plus side, he is nibbling on his greens and I give him Critical Care syringe feeds which he takes well.
Perhaps now the vet will consider prescribing a stronger antibiotic. I also will ask for some meds like Meclezine in case he is getting dizzy.

My Gemini is such a sweet soul and he is very loved so I cannot think of him not beating this illness.

Please send me and my boy some more vibes.

Oh no  sending lots more vibes xx

I am really sorry to read that Gemini is not doing too well at the moment. I hope that your Vet may agree to a change of abx. Sending lots of vibes for him xx

Thank you for the extra vibes. I got a few hours rest before finding he has developed the horizontal eye movement in his left eye and he is more tilted today. He is also off balance and stumbles when he hops. He got his medicam and abx (Sulfamethoxazole Trimethoprim) which worked last year and earlier this year. It seemed like it was finally working as late as this Thursday before he relapsed.
He is not eating his pellets or hay. He did nibble on some carrot greens and took the critical care via syringe with a bit of coaxing.
When he got his first head tilt, the vet told me his current abx had better penetration than some others.
Gemini's infection is not in his outer ear, so there is nothing to culture.
The vet is in surgery on Monday mornings, so I am hoping I can speak to him so I can get Gemini on different abx.
I keep having visions of my late Black Velvet who became disabled from a serious head tilt. I feel so helpless.

Thanks to all.
Regular vet not in today and may not be tomorrow.
I took Gemini to a different vet with her own practice and Gemini got a different abx along with Panacur and some Meclizine.
I am sure I will have more days of worry before I know if this helps. Gemini was so good at the vets. He even kissed the doctor.
