  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Once again, we have bloat/GI Stasis...

Oh my stars! Smokey has bloat/GI Stasis!

She was fine last night, this morning she is uninterested in her food. I've given her Infacol and Recovery Formula, both of which she has taken, so hopefully she is not too bad.

Looks like a trip to the vet to start May!

AARRGH - so sorry to hear this. I recommend a tummy rub. :) Really hope all will be OK.

Oh dear
I hope Smokey feels better soon. I have a bun with a very sore tummy today too
Please let us know how Smokey is doing

Hi!

Thank you all for the concern.

Sorry for the lateness of the reply, I had to go to uni and do a presentation this afternoon (I left them in my mum's capable hands).

I took Smokey to the vets and, as I suspected, the GI Stasis was caused by her fluffy fur! Sh ehad no temperature and very little gas, so the vet gave her a painkiller and gut stimulent. She started to eat on her own as soon as she got home. Thank Heavens!

I'm not sure what else I can do really to stop it happening again. I groom her often with a slika brush and she already eats tonnes of hay. She won't take pineapple juice, so I'm thinking of investing in some of those tablets with papain and bromelain in. Does anyone know if they actually work?

V glad to hear Smokey's on the mend. I use those Oxbow tablets and, although mine have loads of problems, it does seem to sort out the stringy poos that Clover often gets.

By the way, you really must stop looking at Smokey funny and causing stasis!
