The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Next door neighbours rabbit....

Hi everyone,

My mum's next door neighbour got a rabbit for her little girl about a year ago. Since then i have watched the poor rabbit just sitting in his hutch day in and day out bored.

The hutch is pretty big but inside he has nothing to play with. just a bit of sawdust & hay in the sleeping side (i think there's hay in there anyway).

I say to the little girl that she should let him out and stroke him but she said he bites - obviously he is scared!

I just feel so sorry for him I want to take it of their hands! he looks so misterable its heartbreaking.

My mum looked after Alfie over the weekend and she was more interested in Alfie then her own rabbit!!

any advice or is it just one of those things you cannot control?!

thanks

Hi Janice,

I doubt very much if the rabbit has been neutered or vaccinated. they don't seem very interested in it at all!

he is never covered up and in the freezing winter he doesn't have any extra warmth!!

If your mum knows her neighbour reasonably well, she may be able to give her a printed off leaflet from the RWF site or even suggest some of the ideas on the leaflet. Perhaps invite the little girl round to see your mums rabbit with her mum and put some ideas across which they could do, such as giving it some toys, stroking it with a brush etc

Would it be worth your mum asking to see if her neighbour really wanted the rabbit if your mum was prepared to take it on. Obvioulsy depending upon what sex your mums rabbit is and getting them neutered it may be possible to pair up the two bunnies then the little girl could visit the rabbit at your mums.

It is very difficult when you can see a poor animal which needs a little more fuss / attention / help particualry when it is very difficult to do a lot to help them without potentially offending someone.
