Should we get another little girl for our group?

This is probably going to seem like sheer madness especially after my last post http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=8340 but I have been considering adopting another little girl bunny for our group. Things seem to back to normal regarding our bunnies having a falling out and I'm wondering if it's a good idea or not.

The post above has all the info about the last situation plus who we already have but I'll do a quick recap. We have 2 neutered males and an un-spayed female. As I mentioned in my previous post she is un-spayed as we got her and her sister and when we took them to the vets to be spayed her sister died after being put under the anesthetic (I think that’s how you spell it). As this was obviously unusual the vet felt it might be genetic so we didn’t have little Smudge spayed.

I think what I need opinions on really:

1. Is it a good idea having another female about with Smudge being un-spayed?
2. Will this set Sweep off again (see last post)?
3. At the mo all 3 live in a 6x4 shed. Once (hopefully) bonded is a 6x4 shed enough room for 4 happy bunnies?
4. As a group these Bunnies have been together for over 8 months so would introducing another be difficult?
5. Am I mad as peace and harmony has been restored so is it worth upsetting the balance?

If I've missed any consideration please point them out!

It’s something I’m only thinking about, so I haven’t set my heart on it yet. Please feel free to tell me it’s a bad idea!! If anyone thinks it’s a good idea we’re in South East Essex so if anyone knows any rescues near by then please tell me.

I apologise once more for the length of this post! Pictures of the living accommodation is on the second page of my last post if anyone is curious about the space they have.

Thanks,

Nick.

hi

:D Yes you are mad - join the club!

I think 4x6 would be a bit crowded for 4 bunnies, plus like you say - the fighting...But if you have the bunny urge then I would advise you get a bonded pair from a rescue - no work needed - and keep them seperate to the original group, either indoors or up the other end of the garden out of smelling range :)

Ah could be a problem with those suggestions as we can't have indoor bunnies (or the 3 we have already would be indoors) as my wife is allergic to animal fur and it would be very diffcult to have another hutch in the garden that wouldn't be visible or within sniffing range of the shed.

Shame 4 would have been a nice 'round' number :(

I wouln't reccomend adding another doe. Your buns are happy now and adding another bun to the group could set off all sorts of trouble. I would suggest that you adopt a pair from a rescue and keep em seperate as well!

Best Wishes!

Aww its a shame when you had set your heart on another bunny, but its best not to upset the apple cart.

My Daughter would love to introduce some gilries in with the boys, but they get on so well I just couldnt stand it if it upset the balance.

That's alright, I hadn't set my heart on it yet. It's something we've thought about on and off sine we lost one of the girls. I'd rather have 3 happy bunnies than 4 miserable ones and as the advice seems to be not to get another - we won't. Thanks for everyone who contributed we could have made a big mistake!!! :D

If you feel the urge for more bunnies to cuddle you could trying visiting a local rescue. Bunny cuddlers are very sort after as it really helps with the socialisation.
