  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Two questions...

Hello again everyone,

I've got two questions that I was hoping people could help with.

The first is if anyone can give me any tips for fox-proofing a shed. I've come up with ideas, but was wondering if there's anything specific people are doing, and any ingenious tips, etc...

Second, how can I use bunny poo for fertiliser? Do I have to isolate the poos from the hay and shavings? Or can I put it all onto my veggy patch? I've never used fertiliser before, so...!!

Thanks in advance!!!

I don't know about the first question, but in answer to the second you will need a small bin. Use this as a compost bin You can put all the newspaper straw hay poo and wee in this ( the dry newspaper doen't work nearly as well as the wet wee covered stuff.) Along with any vegatable peeling from when you cook or anything like that. Tear the newspaper into strips before you put it in the bin. Everything else goes straight in. Then just leave it all in the bin outside and in a few weeks you will have some lovely manure :D :thumb:

I am layering mine with grass cuttings, peelings and plant cuttings - they say the bunny poo etc helps stop the grass from going slimey - we'll see! The wee brakes it all down - mine has been smoking!!
If it works I am gonna grow the biggest carrots for my lot next year this side of the A303!!

I have fox proofed my hutch with a combination lock. (obviously i don't need the combination cos foxes arn't that clever ) but its impossible for anything other than a human to open.
