  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Red wee

I know that rabbit wee can be a rainbow of colours but should we be concerned if it all of a sudden goes from clear to sludgy cream to red??????

have your buns been eating anything different that could have coloured their wee?

I know if Panzy has a run on eating Dandelion flowers his wee turns orange.

I fyou are at all worried or it looks like blood then a trip to the vets is best.

No hasn't eaten anything different than normal. We are waiting for results of her blood tests to come back which is why the concern is there, she drinks loads of water up to 800ml a day but on average 500ml and pees for England bless her but up until today it has been clear, the first one this morning was creamy and the following have been red, she isn't expresing any signs of pain when she goes.

Sometimes my upstairs rabbit's wee changes colour for no apparent reason! If all of it is red then it isn't blood. If you can see a few drops of red in an otherwise clear puddle - that is cause for concern.

Nope it is all red, huge puddles to paddle in bless her  :D

In one of my bunny books it says:

Rabbit urine varies in colour. It may be clear, yellow, orange, red, or even thick chalky white.

Where would I be without my bunny books!

If my rabbit has too much carrot (her favourite) her wee turns red. I limit the amount she has to stop it happening.

There is often red wee in my bunny shed - never sure what triggers it but they all seem healthy. I really panicked the first time I saw it.

Since one of my rabbits has been neutered, her wee has turned red, but it is not blood and she is very healthy. :?
She eats exactly the same as my other rabbit, and her wee is yellow!

Not sure about red wee - have seen orange and that's when the buns have eaten carrot.

Sludgy wee is caused by excess calcium. Oli get this when he eats too many pellets, or when I feed him carrot, brocolli or other high calcium foods - so he is not allowed these any more! b-m
