Hi.

I'm fostering a 10 week old Netherland bun who has some quite nasty eye issues. Initially, he had slightly weepy eyes then suddenly one was glued shut, a lot of white discharge down his face and the eye very sore. The vet gave us Isathal eye gel and metacam but was concerned he'd lose the eye. We've been treating it around the clock (vet said not to let the discharge dry, so we've been using a tea bag & cotton buds to try to soak it). The poor little thing is still red raw (started treatment on Saturday) and producing lots of discharge. He's so happy in himself though.

I'm concerned the vet hasn't done enough initially, like no anti biotic for him to take?
I'm seeing them again tomorrow. Is there anything I should push for? I feel like this is a tear duct problem, so if the vet doesn't suggest it, should I ask about flushing them? Is there anything else I can be doing for him?

I’d push for an ophthalmologist referral. I have a bunny with eye issues, and I feel a bunny with eye issues must be seen by a specialist.
 
Did the Vet check for a corneal abrasion ? Isathal is not always helpful if the cornea is damaged/ ulcerated. The active ingredient does not penetrate the cornea as well as a treatment such as chloramphenicol. If the cornea is damaged healing can take some time. If you are not confident that your Vet has the expertise to deal with the problem you can request a referral to a Specialist, as suggested by Zigzag
 
I believe she did check.
I've got chloramphenicol but it's 1% (human one). Does Anyone know if this is safe for rabbits?
The isathal seems to be doing nothing.

Just a quick update. He's now on exocin eye drops, and fingers crossed, it's working a lot better than isathal.
