Stairs and bunny

We found and rented a new flat on Monday, we are moving after 1 month. But there are stairs inside the flat and our flat in Istanbul didn't have stairs. And the back of the stair steps is in the form of a empty, which frankly scares me. Because Cookie will probably want to go up the stairs, but I'm scared. Do you think I should prevent it, will he fall? Also, what precautions should I take to the ladder, what can I do?

The bottom of the stairs is empty just like in this picture

He will probably be fine with it once he gets the hang of stairs. It depends on how far he could fall and if it's on to carpet or hard floor. There are also lots of chewing opportunities. I know the cats would love an open staircase, but I'm not so keen.

I would either put up a baby gate across the bottom step (you can get pressure-mounted ones so no drilling holes for fixing), make it out of bounds with puppy panels, or tape some card or carpet along the underneath, although that is going to be a nuisance to clean.

I'm thinking about the carpet too, but I'm afraid he will fall through the back empty. I wonder if I should do something like protective stairs tulle to the back of the stairs, it keeps the empty closed. I can't stop him from going to the stairs, whatever he does, he tries to go. :D

You might find he isn't keen on them.My girls have loved stairs as it's suited their smaller body shapes.

Rodney is terrified of them and will only go up one step because he hates having to workout how to come down as he's a bit long for them and finds it awkward.

Flopsy was similar although he also had to contend with walking on his lop ears.

Personally I would let my rabbits use stairs like that, as you say incase a fall through the open bits.

I guess everyone has different opinions. :D So Cookie is a little bunny so he's a bit athletic, I'm sure he'll try the stairs. I don't mind him going upstairs if he can, he's free at home anyway. My only fear is that he will hurt himself on the stairs, fall.

I'm thinking of buying these tulle nets next to and under the stairs.

I'm thinking of something similar as a carpet.

Rabbits tend to run up and down stairs quite fast, so I would be wary of him doing it on slippy, open steps. I would still be prepared to stop him using them, at least at first. It is also a trip hazard to you if he is using the stairs and gets under your feet.

I understand, thank you so much
