  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Base of ear lump - waxy buildup suggested

Just wanted to update this and say we went ahead with the surgery on Thursday. Obi came home yesterday and is doing really well. He hates his meds and hates his ear being cleaned but besides that he's his usual happy bouncy self.

Oh, that's so wonderful to hear! I'm so glad he's doing really well and is his happy and bouncy self. I don't blame him for not liking his meds and his ear being cleaned! Sending him so many vibes for his recovery.

Fudge had what was diagnosed as ear mites by local vet treated but kept itching. Took him to Molly Varga as local vet were rubbish with getting tests back. She felt a lump in his ear, did a CT scan and found was a wax build up. She flushed them regularly and now we use Tris-Nac daily to keep him out of the vets. We think it could be his arthritis means he can’t scratch out the wax. She’s been amazing for Fudge if you are near enough, definitely see her.

Thanks Lessa, Obi's lump was an abscess which we went ahead with the surgery for. It wasn't a straightforward recovery but we got there!
Just trying to work on this respiratory thing now but it's really clinging on.

Unfortunately Respiratory tract problems and ear abscesses are often connected
