    Default Odin and Freja update

Quick update - we've got the vets later to discuss longterm options, but since Odin's eye exploded he has been doing better and better. His eye is perfectly normal, third eyelid and all, and I'm pretty sure he can see at least something out of it - he doesn't tilt his head at us like he was, and he seems to respond to flicking fingers either side, turning towards them. Eating is great, though it's still be a struggle to get them bigger. They've been outside the past few days for several hours and that has helped as he eats the grass, so we're just going to try and get them in the garden as much as possible. Be interesting to see what his weight is like now. Could the penicillin be affecting his gut a little? There are no caecals and haven't been for some time now.
Freja - we sent photos of her lip but they agreed that it wasn't worth the stress of trying to look at it and bringing her on, just to give pain relief and try to clean it. It is healing really nicely, all healthy pink and smooth now, doesn't bother her at all, and she is more and more happy every day.
They've not been to the vets for nearly 3 weeks now so they have had a good chance to settle down into normal life again. Odin is a little angel with his injections, I can give them when he's just sitting on the floor eating herbs.
Trying out their new transport box today, hope it works, it's a big storage box on wheels! Will be a snug fit but it's just for quick visits and emergencies, for day trips I'd still take them in the dog crate, I just can't manage that myself very easily and we need a quick and easy option anyway, especially if we're away.

Aw brilliant Response to waved hands etc. sounds excellent, that's a really good sign. Aboleth wouldn't respond to anything on ther no-eye side so it's not just hearing etc.! Hope all goes well later, and I hope the box is a good system too

We're back - new transport raised a few eyebrows (I'll take a photo later!) and it was quite cosy for them but they maybe travelled better for having less space to knock around in. Pleased with Odin, found a tiny lump on his lower lid which I will look at later too, but he thinks it's just a skin tag. He still isn't sure if there is a light reflex but at the end of the day it doesn't matter, we are pretty sure he has some sight, but his eyes are quite deep set anyway compared to some and his whiskers do a good job of protecting him. To carry on with injections to the end of the bottle - would have stopped abit sooner but we are away in February so I don't want to risk stopping and it blowing up when we're away, so we'll continue til the bottle runs out which will probably be end of January. Then it's just a case of wait and see.
He said when they did the dental there was no sign of disease, no reason to think there would be an abcess at all, and from what I understand retrobulbar abcesses don't usually blow out, so maybe it was unrelated to teeth and just coincidence, he is a terror for getting stuff stuck in his nose and weepy eyes from dust so maybe he just got something in it? Who knows. Will just have to wait and see.
Turfed them out at the garden gate to find their own way up the garden, hopefully filling up on some grass on the way!!
