  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Back legs going one way and front the other

This evening maple has suddenly developed something that means shes ending up moving in circles

She sits and her back legs seem to be moving out to the left and her front to the right meaning shes twisting and tilting over to one side, she then has to manouvre herself to sit straight and does this over and over till shes done a full 360

Shes eaten greens and some hay but doesnt seem keen on her mix right now

The one odd thing this afternoon is lack of poos

We think its her back leg as neurologically she seems fine

Has anyone experienced this? We cant get her to the vet till 8.45 am

Without being able to see the situation it is impossible to say what the cause might be. But it could be a spinal problem and so it is essential that you keep her confined to a small space until a Vet rules out spinal trauma. Is there no emergency Vet cover you could get her to tonight. Especially as you say that she is not passing poo, even if she is eating at the moment.

If the vet rules out trauma as the cause of the symptoms, the EC parasite could be considered and treated for (Panacur daily for 28 days & an NSAID to relieve the neurological effects) as it can cause similar issues with mobility. If she's not pooing, the guts are affected, and that needs urgent investigation as well.

I hope you get some answers from the vet visit. If she stops eating completely and / or gets worse, I would be contacting the vet tonight.

Shes still eating and has pood over night but were going down to the vets at 9.15
Thank you both x

Sending lots of vibes for Maple. I hope the vet can establish what the issue is and provide some help.
