  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Bunny doesn't eat Hay - Some dental work done.

He's a bit slow at eating atm. I'm just a bit worried where he will spend a penny as he isn't litter trained and uses his bedroom. I have him indoors for tonight. I wonder why they gave him fluids. The little bandage was really sticky and has pulled off some fur on his ear. It is quite usual for them to eat during the night/early morning, well would you believe it, he just hopped up to his bowl and took a piece of cabbage out. :thumb:

Aww I'm glad he seems to be recovering.

Our vets always give fluids with a ga here I believe to support them and aid recovery.

I have had no experience of giving fluids after a GA and I must have had around 50+ neutered. Louis is not eating as well as I would like, his wound is fine, he's taken his Metacam but he did no wees at all overnight but the minute I put him back outside he went and did some poohs. I picked him some grass which he started to eat but then stopped, so I am wondering if the Vet did some dental work and his mouth is sore. I am waiting for the Vet to ring me atm. He is not as bright as he should be but perhaps he is a slow recoverer. Thanks for all your vibes.

My Vet always gives fluids after a Rabbit GA. It is standard procedure for most Vets. I hope Louis becomes brighter throughout the day. I would mention his lack of urine output to your Vet.

The Vet has just phoned and Louis did have a couple of spurs which were gently filed down. I thought he was being slow to eat. She said if he hasn't eaten by 1.30 to give them a ring and they will see him at the local surgery to give him some Meta .... The fluids are now a normal part of the recovery process.

Louis was much brighter by 4 pm. He had devoured some grass, milk thistle, plantain and a baby dandelion along with pellets and HAY!

Sorry to be late to this post, yet glad louis is brighter, making pooh, and eating something. Sending lots of vibes for your sweet boy.
