  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please help with giving medication

Feisty is good - she must be feeling better, even if it does make meds more difficult.

I agree with the no nonsense approach. Once you know where to insert the meds syringe, making it a quick pick up, insert syringe, squeeze syringe and put rabbit down - less stress all round (assuming you can pick them up in the first place).

Lol wouldn’t have her any other way. At present she’s digging & throwing up the newspaper [emoji23] having a rare old time. Yes that’s it, getting the syringe in right I struggled with. She ate her food though with both meds on. She doesn’t mind getting picked up at all & loves neck snuggles. Xx

In such cases, it is best to contact a veterinarian to clarify what dosage should be used for injections not to harm the animal. I always try to do it carefully so that Betty is not afraid of the syringe. This is quite a stressful process for me. But it's better to pull yourself together and get an injection than worry about her health.
I was so worried about her condition that I stopped eating and sleeping one day. My parents took me to a specialist. It turned out that a medic can prescribe an anxiety treatment plan for the individual's specific needs. After treatment, I learned to be calmer and keep myself in hand in emergencies.
