Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

6 day old rabbit skinny & dehydrated

Please help!
My bunny gave birth to one baby on Saturday morning, I brought them all inside and all was going well but the last two days baby hasn’t been as full and I’ve noticed that it’s wrinkly but today I’ve decided to take over. Baby was cold, skinny and extremely dehydrated. Skin didn’t go back down at all when I did the test. As it’s late at night all I have available is kitten milk so I have fed it some and it did take it, it had a couple of poops. I’ve now managed to warm baby up but then he/she goes cold quick again. What do I do? It’s not at all as lively as usual and it’s really worrying me. Honestly it doesn’t look like it did a couple days a go. In the photo he/she is in the blanket I’ve used to warm it up as it’s nice and cosy so I only had it exposed to take this photo. But this is the condition of it currently.

I’ve moved your thread to health, hopefully someone can advise. I would call the vet for advice.

Another member posted about hand raising kits as a sticky note in our health section.
I suggest you read this until you can get baby and mom seen by vet. Is mom bunny producing milk?

Also, not sure where dad is now. Females can get pregnant right after giving birth,so mom and dad bunny should be separated.

Try holding Kit to Mum’s nipple to suckle. Hand rearing such a young Kit has a very poor prognosis. There is a high risk of aspiration and disruption of gut flora

If you have another Lactating Doe you could try Fostering the Kit onto her if the Kits Mum will not allow her to feed or if she has no milk.
