  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cecal Dysbiosis in your bunny, anyone?

Floppylop

Young Bun
Has anyone had a rabbit that suffered with undigested cecal droppings, or Cecal Dysbiosis, can I ask what you did to remedy it?? I am aware that a hay diet is the way to go, but have red in vet papers that you can give some greens, but I am not too sure about that!!!

Uneaten cecotrophs does not always mean there is cecal dysbiosis. What is the exact problem you are trying to address ?

One of my rabbits had cecal dysbiosis but it was antibiotic induced, is uneaten cecotrophs a new concern with your rabbit? If everything is otherwise well and can you think of any cause? For example, change in diet, reduction in mobility (ie can your rabbit still comfortably reach over to eat cecotrophs)? If rabbit is otherwise well and no obvious cause I think I'd just give hay and up fibre, possibly consider something like Fibreplex or Bio-Lapis? But if no change a vet visit to determine reason for uneaten cecos would be good, I've only had one other rabbit in the past stop eating cecos and it was due to reduced mobility.

If there is true cecal dysbiosis a vet visit urgently would be needed for supportive care.
