  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Essex people - anyone heard of this exotics referral place?

I've heard of it (but more for the oncology; I didn't realise they covered exotics too) and daughter was considering applying for a job there at one point. It's up by the Toomey car showrooms in Laindon but they're building new state of the art premises apparently.

Thanks :) My vet is going to try them out for referrals, I think. When I get another hamster I would be tempted to just go straight to an exotics vet, if it were close enough.

This was our thinking too But we tried to get in to see William Lewis with our chinchilla a few weeks ago and were told he wasn't taking on new clients. We were given the option of leaving her there all day for him to look at when he had time but it kind of defeated the object as we wanted to be able to discuss with him too.

I didn't know that!

If I needed an exotics vet in the future, I'd probably give William a call still and hope he had room for us. [emoji1787] But, yes, definitely good to know of another option and it's ever so slightly closer for us!

As it turned out, we took her to our usual vet, lots of investigations and all we found was that she'd gone off her usual brand of pellets. [emoji1787][emoji1787]

Hah, fussy critters!

What I want to know is, why are all the Essex exotics vets always in south Essex? Bah!
