  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How Rabbits Adapted to Survive Myxomatosis

Certainly interesting. It's a big dread of mine as we get so many mosquitoes here, as close to marshes. I've had two rabbits with Myx, one unvaccinated many years ago, who was pts and one vaccinated (Yan), who survived.

The article was good news and bad news really I guess.

Sounds like bunnies have been dealing with their own kind of Covid for centuries now. :? I wonder if this is at all relatable scientifically to us locating proteins in our genomes to help us fight viral pandemics. Odd that such a study should be published concurrent with today's travails.

Been uncharacteristically bunny broody of late, but even if I'd not decided long ago that I couldn't take care of more rabbits, the fact that we have our own myxo strains here in the Pacific Northwest would stop me cold. Such a horrible disease.

Thank you for the article, Jane. Most informative. :)

Given it was rife in the local population at least in 2015 here and they're now up to more than 20 per (linear-ish) mile, it doesn't surprise me but it's nice to know the mechanisms :D
