Best Pellets for Rabbits Gut

I am sure this has been posted before but cannot locate the thread.

I am due to get more pellets for my buns. They are currently on Excel but wanted to know which brand is best for gut health?

thanks

I dont feed my Rabbits pellets at all. If I did it would be a cold pressed pellet rather than an extruded one eg https://www.thehayexperts.co.uk/hypoallergenic-nutri-pressed-rabbit-pellets.html

Fibafirst Sticks are good too https://www.thehayexperts.co.uk/fibafirst-rabbit-500g-543.html

I have tried for years to get mine on a Hay only diet with no luck. Then when they go into boarding they get fed Pellets despite instructions so its a difficult balancing act. So I now only feed them small pellets with fresh hay daily which they eat.

They get fiber sticks

That package looks pretty small? Not sure it would go very far with 3 rabbits :)

Its 2 kilos - that's gonna fill a lot of eggcups. Mousey is on a similar nugget but the one made by haybox

We are slowly moving him off nuggets. We are getting low on them and will need a new bag. Which of these two would you say is best? I can order them then [emoji6]

I haven't managed to go foraging at all yet. I have foraminal stenosis in my neck and the pain is becoming unbearable. I struggle to walk to the loo now. I had a letter saying I have to wait 4 months to see Orthapedic specialist [emoji24]

You mentioned before about dried herbs and plants. Can you recommend sites to me please Jane? Or anyone else. I realise you are in pain aswell Jane [emoji175]

I'm struggling to even look on websites at stuff now but I want to order Mr Chief healthy foods so he doesn't miss out until I can go foraging. I can see it being a long while now [emoji20] x

I don't have any advice or anything that's about the thread itself, but I want to say I'm sorry you're in so much pain, and that you have to wait such a long time to see a specialist. That's so horrible that there's no help for you right now when you're struggling with even basic things. :(

I use pro fibre which I source from vio-vet. They're a bit more expensive than the usual pellets but they are developed specifically for gut health.

This is where I get my forage from - I buy in bulk because I've got 2 giants who are pellet free, but they do lots of smaller bags of different mixes too. Plenty to choose from, decent prices, and comes with a giant seal of approval from mine!

I'm really sorry you're having issues with pain, it sounds horrendous 😔

With regards to dried forage, you can buy it from the hay experts, galens garden and hop to forage. I'm sure there are others I can't think of off the top of my head!

It is very difficult. I'm also waiting for neurologist to get back to me about tests. GP doesn't want to up painkillers any more until knows what neurologist plans to do with me. And they all do not talk to each other either! [emoji23]

Sorry you are in so much pain and unable to get tests. Sending you vibes.

Rabbits are a bit different but I would say the best are those that are grainfree and have at least 18% fiber, no more than 14% protein and propper calcium/phosphorous ratio.

I find that Selective Natural Grainfree and Bunny Nature do well for my buns. And I don't feed much pellets anyway. table spoon per 1kg / 2.2 lbs is more than enough.

Aw man, Tiggerz, that's rough. Hope you can get some respite soon xxx

Pellets: Mine do fine on Excel so they're staying on them. They're alright, not the best. Going pellet free wouldn't train mine to come when 'called' Not that Lopsy does anyway: we thought we'd managed to get him focussed over the last year and abit with Chibbs but last night he just wouldn't come XD He's a bit dim AND deaf so trying to force him over to the playhouse from the hutch can be a bit of a (massive) chore XD Chibbs is a good girl though, but not as smart as Aboleth who'd go and get Lopsy. Probably because she's not as food-oriented as Aboleth! We could do it, we can forage enough and dry it to last all Winter but the planning and organisation is simply beyond my brainspace right now XD

We've got ours on Science Selective grain free.

Only 10g a day to share, they're doing well on them. The vet recommended them after we lost our nugget free bunny.

Very handy for training as Blossom doesn't respond to non food commands yet although Rodney does a few nuggets helps reward him for his brushing as he hates the feeling so much.

Thanks for all the kind words. Sorry not replied to everyone individually but on morphine now and seem to be permanently asleep and only on here now as have a monent of alertness! And I'm hallucinating which is fun! [emoji23] Unfortunately the pain is still there as meds start to wear off but I don't feel it when I am comatose!

I gave my OH instructions to see if they sold Science Selective at local pet store and to get it if they had it and otherwise to leave it and will order feed online. (I thought it would be easier for OH if he can buy it local as he is pretty much doing everything at moment) I was thinking to try a new pellet for him but not really able to read up on them at moment [emoji53]

He came back with Excel for house bunnies saying they didn't have Science Selective! So looks like we have another bag to go through now as I hate waste. Oh well. He is only on a tablespoon a day now anyway which is not much for a giant bunny.

I guess it leaves me having to make any decisions until I'm a bit better [emoji6]
