Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stasis/Liver problems

Thank you

Thank you, he’s been on Milk Thistle since they first discovered liver problems. He also had marbocyl at first (as well as stasis meds and Metacam), now nearly finished doxycycline course. What did Inspector Morse’s liver biopsy show, if you don’t mind me asking? Do you mean he was permanently on MT? Thank you again xxx

His biopsy did not reveal anything abnormal .Which was strange given his blood results and slightly enlarged liver. It was assumed that he had had an infection that resolved by the time the Biopsy was taken. An U/S about a month later showed his liver was back to within normal size ranges. He stopped having Milk Thistle at that point and subsequent monitoring blood tests were all OK until he developed an abdominal (NOT Liver) tumour a couple of years later.

One thing that has occurred to me, has your Bunny had a course of Panacur at any time near to a blood test ? Fenbendazole, the active ingredient in Panacur, can effect Liver enzymes and cause hepatomegaly. This resolves some time after treatment is stopped.

Thanks Jane, what a special bunny he was 🥰

No, he’s never had Panacur, and hadn’t been on anything since stasis meds last Oct. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Good to know for future/other buns!
