Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jasmine's gunky eye UD Final update 12/10

Thank you all, so after I said these I've just done her baytril and eye drop for the night and it looks worse than ever! Her other eye also definitely has discharge too so done a drop in that one too. Perhaps it's from the vet visit today, not sure what they done but if they did a tear test or fluorescene dye perhaps. She's luckily really well in herself. I'm getting quite stressed with it as Bigwig is still poorly and back at the specialist in 2 weeks when he's back from holidays and Jack dog has had some poor blood results this morning and needs to go back for tests.

I am sorry to hear this Liz. I know how stressful it is when we are coping with a lot of poorly Pets.

Sending lots of vibes for all three of them x

Thank you. Her eyes are looking better this morning so I think it was perhaps the vet trip if they did something to her eye to check it. Bigwig is now lunging and biting us at baytril time and has started putting up a fight which then makes her cough :(

Oh bless you sending vibes for them all and hugs for you.

It always seems like these things all come along at once!

Baytril is the med of the devil. I expect you have tried dipping the syringe tip into some fruit purée so the initial taste is not so gross.

Thank you. Yeah I think she's just fed up with it now. Jasmine hates the baytril and tries to bite us too but doesn't run away like Bigwig does, she bites the syringe rather angrily but actually makes it easier as at least then the syringe is in her mouth already! Poor bunnies

Oh no it must be so stressful for you with several ill animals :(
I hope they all will get better, lots of vibes!

Thank you. Haven't updated about Jasmine for a while, she isn't snuffly and her eye is finally looking better. It's no longer red and generally there's no discharge. Her third eyelid is still showing, although not as bad as it was. She's still on Isathal and has another week of baytril. She's eating well as normal but I'm still a bit worried about her tooth roots, would a normal X ray of the head (ie not a dental specific X ray) show this?

It should do x

Thank you. Jasmine is to stay on baytril and booked for a tear duct flush, X ray and dental if she needs one on Friday 9th April.

I hope the baytril is going down better, and that the appointment goes well for her xx

Friday can't come soon enough, Jasmine's eye is declining again. We're using an eye cleaner, she has discharge morning and evening to clean, but I'm worried about her actual eye. The 3rd eyelid is still showing, and is very red. Her eye is also blood shot, this improved on Isathal last time whereas doesn't seem to have any affect atm. She's still on Baytril too. I'm not sure the vets have the equipment, but I'm wondering if it's worth getting her eye pressure checked?? We're self isolating and not sure what else the vets would do but feel terrible waiting till Friday. She is eating/toileting/otherwise well.

Can you get earlier appt or have a phone consult with vet? She may need to have eye stained to reveal any damage/irritation to her cornea from bacteria or allergies. Did vet prescribe eye cleaner? Allergies can develop to meds and products after many uneventful uses. Vet may want to change abx or add anti-inflammatory drop.
Pain meds may be needed too.
Sending vibes she will improve quickly.

Is she Insured ? If so I would get a referral to an Eye Specialist. It could prove to be very beneficial as obtaining a definitive diagnosis sooner rather than later regarding eye problems makes a huge difference with prognosis regarding saving the eye. Maybe call the Vet today and ask if they can get a referral underway ?
