Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Hope your Hospital treatment goes well and that Jasmine will get on OK on Friday too x
Thank you all, I called to see which ophthalmologist my regular vets usually refer to and it's one near Leeds. It is doable but is 3 trains and a bus, not sure how Jasmine would cope. I couldn't get a lift there but could probably get a lift again to the RWAF Gold and exotic referral vet we saw with Bigwig, although he's not specifically an eye vet.
The RWAF gold practice are happy to see her as I mentioned we were having problems with her when I was last there with Bigwig, the eye specialist referral have offered an appt but the earliest they can see her is 27th May!! I'll see how she gets on on Friday.
Thank you. Her eye looks better when we use the eye wash as opposed to just water or salt water so I don't think it's the eye wash, but we could try just use water till Friday. Sometimes we don't need to use anything, only when she has discharge to wipe away. I would like to change eye drops as I've seen others have had more success with Maxitrol, but vets have used Isathal first since it's licensed for rabbits and won't change until a swab on Friday. She's on systemic anti-inflammatory and antibiotic.
Thank you for the vibes for myself, I'm really hoping I'll be allowed home so I can get their packed lunches/send them off for their vet trips the following day (as Ellie pig is also in for a lump removal) but I'll most likely need a couple of nights stay
Photo of her poor looking eye, the redness of the third eyelid is what I'm most worried about.

Thank you both xx
Thank you, I'm sure there's more going on than 'just Pasteurella', although I guess this could have caused the abscess. Do you have any experience of this sort of abscess? I'm going to ask for a skull X ray, dental if needed, swab & tear duct flush if that's the best diagnostics at this stage.
