  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Heidi can use some vibes-update 3/19/21

bunny momma

Wise Old Thumper
Heidi has not been her usual self the last few days. She is eating , yet does not devourer her pellets in record time like she usually does. She is a mini rex who grooms herself well. She is shedding a little and I saw two poos connected by fur a couple days ago.
She made poo today that was smaller/harder than usual outside litterbox, which she never does. She also drank about two thirds her usual amt past few days.

Tonight I gave sub Q fluids and skin seemed less hydrated. I also gave her medicam and motility meds since vet closed until Monday.

Please send vibes that she will soon be back to dancing for food.

Eating and pooping (and dancing) vibes for Heidi. Yup. They always wait till the weekend!
Hope she's more herself very soon! xxxx

Thank you ru friends for your positive thoughts and support. I told Heidi about her wonderful friends on ru.
Last night her tummy felt softer, and last night and this morning she came for her ration of pellets, though still not dancing for her dinner. She is making more poo, plus most of her poo looks good. She has stopped scattering litter.
She is shedding and she enjoyed her grooming this afternoon as my nephew held her after her meds.
Heidi is such a good girl and is very tolerant of her care. I am lucky to have her.

I just gave her litterbox an extra cleaning to give a closer check of her poo and noticed two separate poos that were mostly fur, so not sure if shedding/fur primary or secondary to slow gut/eating I originally saw. She is a good hay eater when she does not get extra pellets from spouse-usually. She is very convincing with her mini rex, "I have not been fed" look,
