  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Back at the vets (Update 24th March)

Sorry to hear this, when is his next blood test ?

Sending more vibes for him x

I’m just waiting for the vet to open and then will request a blood test when I get an appointment.

Also going to ring Anton this week as I’d really like JC’s opinion.

Does anyone know if antibiotics are sometimes prescribed for EC? Or have I imagined that? Just trying to make sure I’ve got everything covered for questions.

Back from the vets, they fitted me in as soon as they opened.

He’s not lost any weight and he looks healthy from the outside so that’s a positive. The vet suggested a blood test straightaway but said he wants to send it off to the lab so they can do full blood work including kidney, liver and glucose, so we’re back tomorrow evening so they can get a fresh sample. If he behaves long enough to get a good sample they’ll test for EC too  which would be good to get a definitive answer on that.

The vet said to stop the electrolytes til tomorrow as he wants to get a true picture of what Phillip’s body is doing. Also that could be increasing his thirst as well since that’s gotten worse since the electrolytes started.

Hopefully the blood test results will be back by Wednesday morning so it’s just waiting for those as a first step.

Hope the bloods shed some light on what is going on.

I'm glad Phillip hasn't lost any weight and looks healthy on the outside; that's good, at least. I hope the blood test results will give you some answers.

I hope you get to the bottom of it with the results. I think what Phillip has always got in his favour is he takes it all so well and still loves life despite his ups and downs. He’s a good boy xxx

Thanks everyone.

Well by some miracle they managed to get 5ml of blood from his neck! So they’re able to test for everything they wanted which is good, although we have one sulky bunny right now who is hiding from me under the refuge of OH’s legs [emoji38]

Sulky silky black bunnies are too much...I cant boobly bear the thought I've disappointed them. Please forgive mom Phillip, she's just looking out for you.

More vibes from the Trawden gang

Poor Phillip :( Thinking of you, sending Phillip loads of vibes and hoping that the blood results are OK.
