  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rescue Having (Much Less Frequent Now) Seizures?

Peanut has of course been to the vet for this issue, and it actually only happens once every few months but he IS still having seizures.

Peanut has had an ultrasound, he has been poked at and checked on and we have taken him to multiple vets at this point. Thankfully we found a good one, but they gave him a clean bill of health and said if he's taken his meds and completed them; it wouldn't be an infection or neurological issue UNLESS it is from PTSD.... I'm basically on here trying to see if, in any cases, this has happened to anyone else?

I have a growing concern, the more he gets older. I do not want to have to put my bunny down for grand mal's later, that could have been prevented now. He is only 8 months to a year, at the moment.

Please, if anyone has any insight as to what could be going on with my boy, I really need help. My husband and I are so terrified every day that something could happen and we wouldn't be here to catch it.

Hello

Do you have a definitive diagnosis for the cause of the seizures and what treatment has been given so far.? I have a Rabbit with a complex neurological problem and one of the symptoms is occasional seizures. In Rabbits Encephalitozoon Cuniculi ( EC) is often the cause of seizures and even after treatment seizures can be a life long problem due to permanent brain cell damage caused by EC.

If you could provide a bit more detailed information about your Rabbit’s initial diagnosis, the type and duration of treatment given and his exact clinical presentation now I will try to offer a bit more advice. Not that I am a Vet, but I have had a few Rabbits who had seizures over the last 24 years. One developed them at the age of 6 months due to EC. Although he continued to have them after treatment for EC and for the rest of his life ,he did go on to live another 8 years as a very happy Bunny as part of a group of 4 other Rabbits. So please don’t assume that your Rabbit will not be able to have a good QOL even if he continues to have seizures.
