  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Amber spay today 2 15 21 Need vibes and advice.

Amber is making slow progress. Overnight tuesday to wednesday she seemed to be getting uncomfortable so I gave her part of her next dose of pain meds a few hours early and then held and watched her until after 4am. She ate some hay and few more pellets before I woke up . She is moving around more today. She likes medicam so I only need to pick her up to check her incision which she ignores. She has no external stitches, just glue-all stitches are inside. I hope she more like herself by next monday.

As a spay involves cutting through muscle it is bound to be sore for a few days. It sounds as though she is making a ‘normal’ recovery :)

Thank you for your insight and support. She shared the last of Raven's dandelion greens (shh-he would not approve) which are hard to source now. It perked her up for the three minutes she took to eat them. I am giving her lots of quiet time. I know she had physical trauma/pain, though she also seems less trusting of me. Hopefully I can regain her trust as she heals.

If she gets a bit grumpy it will be due to the post spay hormone surge that usually occurs. The pituitary gland goes into overdrive as a response to neutering .Things should settle down in 4-6 weeks.

Thanks Jane, She is a super good girl, so I am not used to her not wanting to sit with me. Even hormonal she is good, just not my Amber.

Her trust in you will return as she starts to feel better. I have many spayed Bunnies that I have put them through and if anything they get to rely on you even more.:love:

Thank you. I held Amber for a short while last night and she was a little more tolerant, so I hope she will be my cuddle bunny again soon. In the meantime, Zorro, her brother who lives next to her, is sitting nicely, accepting cuddles, and starting to trust me again (especially if I have pellets:D). His reaction to her being gone and returning after surgery was not something I expected.
