Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My partner is taking Bigwig for her next Amoxicillin injection this afternoon, we also have an appt booked for Saturday since the vets just have the one bottle so can't give us it to do at home yet and we didn't want it pre drawn since I've had issues with pre drawn penicillin in the past becoming too stiff to inject. She seems to have had a reaction at the injection site, was fine until yesterday mid afternoon when I noticed her fur looked greasy and skin is flakey so we'll get this checked too.

Could be that some of the Amoxicillin leaked back out, especially if a large gauge needle was used to administer it.

Yeah I told my partner to check her once we got home make sure there wasn't any around her neck she could end up ingesting, even though the vet did the injection and it was clear until almost 24 hours later. The area looked more greasy this morning but skin doesn't seem damaged.

I can't offer much help with all you are doing here but I'm rooting for Bigwig and really hope injections and probiotics help her.

I totally get the stress you are under. All through Xmas and January I hardly slept with Mr Chief.

Sending much love and vibes and kisses from Mr Chief. He thinks Bigwig is beautiful [emoji178]

Thank you Mr Chief  She's had a good couple of days activity wise, back to following us round and last night being naughty determined to chew her way through our table leg! She didn't eat any pellets though and is refusing the Fibreplex and Pro Fibre but we're trying to get at least some into her.

Jasmine went to the vets too this morning as her eye this morning looked terrible, very crusty with thick white discharge. She's now on baytril and isathal.

Oh bless ya! Poor Jasmine. And poor you!!

Hope both your bunnies get better really soon. Sending hoppity vibes and kisses from Mr Chief [emoji178]

Thanks everyone

Bigwig is doing well, eating more and back to more normal behaviours. She's at our regular vets this afternoon to decide about reducing the diuretic, she'll still be on antibiotics, not sure about metacam if we should reduce that yet. Still waiting to hear from the exotic vets re CT scan.

I'm worried Jasmine has a blocked duct and she's very snuffly. Her teeth were checked, I guess I should continue with the meds for now.

Just as one gets better the other is poorly! Glad to hear Bigwig is doing better though. Good luck with the CT scan. I really hope Jasmine gets sorted quickly aswell so you can relax a while x

We want to eventually get a wifey for Mr Chief but realised we will have to save up so we have a safety net first. I dread the thought of having two of them sick at once. Eeek!

Sending you more vibes and hope you have both bunnies healthy again soon [emoji178]

Thank you :) Yes sadly everything seems to happen at once doesn't it when you have multiple pets!

We decided to keep Bigwig on all 4 medications for another week, so next week will see how she goes with reducing the diuretic.

I may need to start a new thread re Jasmine's eye but does anyone have any tips on how to clean stained fur? Her actual eye is looking better, there's less/sometimes no discharge in the lower corner but it's hard to tell as her fur is stained yellow, very crusty and stiff. I've been cleaning it with boiled water (cooled) and hibiscrub but it's making it hard to tell if she's really improving. I'm thinking the fur might need to be shaved, but that would mean another vet trip and she's not due a check up until next week. Will add pics tonight.

I'm glad Bigwig is doing well and that Jasmine's eye is looking better. I hope you can get her fur clean so you can keep a better eye on whether the discharge is getting less bad or not.

Sorry for a late update. Bigwig has been the same really, she's been on 6 weeks of baytril now and about 3/4 of Frusol and Metacam alongside 2 weeks of Penicillin injections. Following the specialists advice we tried to reduce the metacam first, and she went downhill. Started coughing again and sitting upy to breathe :( So she's back to full dose (0.6ml twice per day) but still isn't doing as well as before. We're going back to see the specialist for a repeat X ray or possible CT, but he's off until Wednesday I think it's the 24th (in 2 weeks time) I really hope she picks up before then as it seems a long wait atm :(

Sorry to hear that Bigwig has not really improved a great deal . I am wondering if the Specialist may consider adding a bronchodilator to her meds ? Sending more vibes for her x

Thanks both. I'm just worrying there's something else as they said her lungs are really good apart from this one mass (suspected abscess from the lung wash), but why would metacam have such an impact on this? She goes really downhill on even a slightly reduced dose. If she's still not great Monday I'll call the exotic vets although the specialist is off, they do have exotic nurses and 2 more vets in training but I know they work at different branches I wouldn't be able to get to.
