  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

No chew bun

FifiBun

Fifi never chews anything, ever. Only her food, which is mostly hay. I know this would probably be considered a good thing, but I'm worried that there's something not quite right with her as it is such a huge part of being a rabbit, And I'm worried about her teeth. Will eating hay be enough to keep her teeth in check?

I've had a few bunnies that haven't chewed anything not meant for them. I honestly wouldn't worry. Of my current three just Joey chews, not much & a lot less than when he was younger

I have cared for over 150 Rabbits over the years and I’d say 75% of them never chewed things they shouldn’t . Others could destroy a kitchen table in one sitting given half a chance. Of my 6 current Rabbits 2 are chewers, one is a licker , 2 are diggers and one has no ‘ Normal Rabbit Behaviour ‘ at all apart from eating ! But he’s got a dodgy brain, rather like me, so he can’t really be used as an example of ‘How to be a Rabbit’ :D

Hay (or grass) is best as the motions needed grind all the teeth correctly :thumb: It's usually enough to keep most rabbits' teeth in good condition :D
