Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lillian health update- at vets 7th january

Quick update on Lillian bunny for everybun as just gotten off phone from the exotic specialist.
Dont panic - all is GOOD. It's 8 weeks exactly today that she last saw a vet. Given she was seeing a vet every 2 weeks from August til November, then I'm well chuffed. Lillians progress has been good and we can't yet establish if it's the meds that are keeping the spasms away or the fact she's not been eating that bulb triffid leaf thing. But I spoke with the exotic specialist just now because we need to formulate a long term management plan for Lillian.
We've withdrawn metacam and the advice is to withdraw in factors of 3. So we've got to maintain present meds but go 3 weeks without metacam. After those 3 weeks, reduce the gabapentin to 1/8th tablet once a day for 3 weeks and see how that goes. If Lillian remains healthy with no urinary issues, then we can then look to withdraw the gabapentin at that point. If she has any wobbles from now, then return to the metacam and if she wobbles when we reduce the gabapentin then we just return to the present medication.
So, things are looking quite positive for Lillian at the moment - fingers crossed that it continues like this.
Craig xx

It's so good to hear that Lillian is doing well. I hope she'll keep doing well as you go forward with the plan and slowly withdraw the medication she's been taking.

That's great news Craig, really hope she carries on like this. You and Mrs Craig have a done a great job with Lillian, she is a lucky bun xx

I thought Lillian was looking so much better on the last photo so hopefully she will be able eventually to live without medication, and things that grow from bulbs. Well done every one xx

Glad Lillian is doing well, I hope she continues to make a good recovery and can come off her meds :)

I am glad Lillian bunny has been well long enough for you to stage the withdrawal of her medication. Our family is keeping fingers and paws crossed that she will continue her progress. What a wonderful way to start the year.

Lillians off to a good start this year  any Lilleo piccies going spare?

I’ll post some lilleo pics in the next few days - I’m pretty sure I’m about to get some ‘unexpected leave’ when I go to work tomorrow.

I’m a jinx. I’m not going to post any more updates. I’m a ruddy jinx.
11:30pm the wife wakes me up from a deep sleep. “I don’t think Lillian is well- she keeps lifting her tail and shuffling...”
So I come out of my sleep, just been downstairs and yup, sure enough Lillian is shuffling 180 degrees every 30 seconds, tummy going into spasms and she’s trying to pee but cannot.
Given additional dose of gabapentin and metacam and that’s all I can do til morning.
Am very depressed. Will assess in morning and prepare for vet trip.

Fingers crossed the gabapentin and metacam work for Lillian and a trip to the vet can be avoided

Lillian has literally just gone in with the vet now. We got her an 8:30 appointment so as quick as we possibly could get given she went into spasm at 11:30pm last night. She was still in spasm this morning - she’s been shuffling every 30 seconds all through the night - I know cause I spent all night with her. My eyes hurt, I dunno what day it is but the wife has taken Lillian to vet. I know they’ll sort her - but it doesn’t make the stress any less on Lillian and she is absolutely exhausted from moving so frequently and not being able to pee properly. She may end up with the diazepam injection which hits her hard but it will enable her to stabilise and pass urine. It’s going to be a long day as I’m at work but Lillian will at least be comfortable.
Will update when I have word from wife who is patiently waiting now at vets.

Wife just called - 2 options. They can inject Lillian and send her home and then see how she is at lunchtime - but since we are both at work that’s not a fair option on Lillian. Option 2 is to admit, give her fluids and medication and they can monitor. Option 2 is the best for Lillian’s welfare so that was an easy decision. Not quite so easy on the old credit card but it’s Lillian’s health and well-being, not mine.
Looks like the vets want us to collect her at lunchtime so I will probably have to go and collect her and have a few early morning starts to make my time back.
Not the best start to 2021 but Lillian’s health comes as priority.

So sorry to hear this Craig, but glad you got a vets appointment so quickly. Sending lots of vibes for you all xxxx
