Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Good morning everybody, hope everybody had a great Christmas!

Thought id give a little update on my eevee now she is one week post op.
She is taking her medication well, she has her appetite fully back so any food with meds on she is lapping them up!
Her antibiotics are due to finish any time now, we were advised used them until the medicine had gone and vet thought they’d run out this weekend, she has enough pain killer to last until next Tuesday though which is our next check up.

We are struggling a bit to keep her confined in her cage, she is absolutely fed up and upsetting me more each day!
She just wants to be out hopping around and i am very hopeful she can start coming out again soon. The vet said she was not allowed to jump or sprint so we have kept her confined to protect her.

Her cut looks great in my opinion. She has healed well and has no swelling/redness anymore. We had a minor issue yesterday, little madam jumped out of her cage when i tried to change her water! She hopped out and went under the cage, i panicked but she went straight back and looked at me as if to say i will get out of this cage sooner or later 😂

Oh her poops are back to normal now, they were tiny for the first 5 days but we have normality again and she is eating so much more hay! Her wee has also lightened in colour, she went to the toilet on her light coloured bed yesterday and there was no sign of any colouring. Very happy with her progress as the blood in the urine concerned me!

Everybody has helped a massive amount to me so i thought id update. Next check up is Tuesday, keeping everything crossed for a positive result! Thank you all for the support and help you have given me! 🙂

Hello all!

Very sad news on our check up today, we were told the lump was cancerous and that bunny has cancer. Vet also said in bunnies there is nothing that they can do to treat cancer if it has spread.
They mentioned they can do a scan to see if the cancer started in her uterus, waiting for the vet from the lab to ring this afternoon to give us more information.

I am heartbroken and blaming myself! Bunny is fine in herself, put up a fight to go to vets today. i just don’t know what to do!
Has anybody been through this and does anybody have any advice? 😢

I’m so sorry  I haven’t had any experience of this so I can’t advise. Sending lots of vibes and hugs xx

I had a bunny who had a cancerous lump but it was inoperable due to where it was. She did eventually die.
I can't advise about spreading and what happens then.
I'm really sorry to hear about your bunny it's so sad :-( xx

i'm so sorry to hear your update. I hope she can be kept happy & comfortable for a good while yet x

We didn't get an official diagnosis (the biopsy was too small), more the most probably cause, and the vet and I conversed about spread, but Aboleth was at the very late stage before she showed anything attributable I reckon (max. 2m before). She had probable lymphoma, which had likely spread to her kidneys and possibly other organs. She was finding it hard to eat at the end as the lumps on her neck were so big, but invisible from the outside and barely palpable without forcing her head up :S We knew nothing of her history before the rescue except she had a nasty eye abscess which the rescue got removed, and she spent 4.5yrs with us.

Did Evee have a spay at the same time as her lump removal? I would certainly try to establish if the cancer had started in her uterus and, depending on the advice from your vet, I would consider a spay if that wasn't performed at the same time. The vet will also probably be able to advise you how aggressive the cancer is and therefore you will be able to discuss how likely it is that the cancer has already spread to other organs.

Sending lots of vibes for Evee.

I am so sorry to read this update. I hope that Evee can be kept comfortable for you and still has much life to share with you.
Sending you hugs and positive vibes for Evee. Xx

Many years ago I had three netherland dwarf sisters who all developed cancerous mammary tumors within a year of each other. None were spayed prior to the diagnosis and each progressed a bit differently over a different amount of time. In one girl it spread to a different mammary, in another it reappeared in the same area. How quickly it was detected, where it originated, if the surgery got good margins, the cancer's level of aggression, and many other factors will determine how much more quality time you will have with your girl.
Sending vibes that the cancer originated where it was removed and the vet got good margins when it was removed. May Evee have much more quality time with you. For now, she is eating, drinking, running (away from the carrier!), so take comfort in the fact that she recovered well and is happy. Hugs.

I am sorry to hear this. I had an ex breeding french lop doe who came to me with mammary tumours associated with uterine adenocarcinoma. She was spayed and had the mammary tumours removed. A chest X-ray done priory to surgery revealed no lung mets and her blood work was all good. Had the pre op checks revealed further metastatic disease we would not have put her through such Magor surgery. Chemotherapy after surgery was an option, but I decided against it as I wanted her to have quality of life for how ever long she had left. She did make a full recovery and her passing 2 years later was unrelated to any form of cancer.

Hello everybody!
Sorry i have not replied on here for a week or so, i have taken some time to process what is happening with our girl.

The vet phoned us back on the 30th and told us that the specialist had gone through the results of the lump etc. They told us that the cancer eve has is fast progressing and they could give her some form of radiotherapy, they said this could make her more poorly and no guarantee it’ll work due to them not knowing how the tumour has spread.

They said that they can remove her uterus if the cancer has spread there, she was not spayed as she has always been a little chunky bunny and her previous vet said spaying was not great at her weight, we tried to get her weight down and then Eve damaged her leg was cage bound for a month and weight went back on! Anyway she is not spayed, something i have blamed myself for and i don’t think i will forgive myself for that!

The vet said the cancer may have spread, or there is a chance they got all the cancer as they took surrounding the lump.
They have said there is no time frame but she could become poorly in 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years but more commonly bunnies pass away between 2 weeks and 2 months.

I have taken a lot of time and i think i have to be unselfish here and putting her through radiotherapy making her more poorly just seems unfair, on the other hand im going to blame myself when she does go.
I have to look out for changes in her eating, energy, active ness and drinking. The vet said when anything changes we may have to discuss options for our girl.

I have cried more the past week than anything else, our girl has not changed. She is running round upstairs (she can’t tackle stairs yet, so the vet says but our girl has different ideas as she keeps trying to get through our safety gate), she is eating everything as usual and not leaving any food or hay unturned haha! She is herself, following me round the house loves her cuddles and it just makes it harder to believe she is poorly because she is so herself.
So i am going to love her, cuddle her so much more and give her everything for as long as we have her.

I have bought her new toys new beds and she looked at me as if to say come on mum, you know i don’t like new toys.... she has not touched them at all haha!
But thank you all, the help and support on here has been wonderful. I will always be grateful 🙂

I’m sorry that it was bad news, but I’m sure that you will make her life the best it can be, and that is all any bunny could ask for. I hope she will remain well for a long time to come xx

Good morning all, i am back with an update on my girl.

So the last update i posted was that the vet said eve had cancer which shattered my world. Even more so when the vet told me she had a number of weeks at most 2 months.

Eve is still going super strong, she is showing no signs of illness or weakness, running round the house like always and is eating and drinking the exact same.
She has remained the same weight, is grooming herself as well as always and is our loving girl!

I know things can take a drastic turn suddenly but for now we are thankful for each day with her, and thankful that 7 months after we got told she had a number of weeks our little one is still fighting through!

She has returned to the vets once, she came downstairs one day then couldn’t put her foot on the floor. Sheer panic and a rush to the vets to be told bunny was fine and had no injuries..... got home and she put that foot straight back down and ran round, she knows how to play the game! Ha
