  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny Sneezing

New Kit
My bunny has been dry sneezing a lot. There is no sign of mucus and her eyes are not watery. She is eating and playing as usually. I can’t seem to identify why she has been sneezing because I clean her cage twice a day and I have recently vacuumed my room. She has been shedding a lot, but I haven’t heard of shedding being a cause for sneezing in bunnies. Any advice or thought will be appreciated.

Ask your Vet to examine her, dry sneezing can be due to a variety of reasons including problems related to the lungs and/or heart.

If you use wood shavings as litter remove them, they are known to cause respiratory tract inflammation

Too hot/dry environments can do the same- eg a centrally heated poorly ventilated room

Avoid using any scented cleaning products, perfumes, air fresheners in the environment

Sorry for Curt tone of my post

I agree with IM's reply. Is there anything in your room which could be causing the sneezing - smoke from scented candles can cause sneezing or dust from a vacuum cleaner if you need to change the bag or filters.
