Any off the shelf or home made medicines for Pneumonia stricken rabbit

Comet2020

New Kit
Good Folks,
I bought a 10 week old NZ male bunny from a seller who had crammed quite of rabbits in one place, not well insulated from weather. The rabbit was drooling a lot, sneezing right from day one and made very heavy sound while sleeping and often otherwise as well. I was hopeful that he will recover with time and care but his conditioned worsened very fast. Took him to a vet who pretty much said he has few hours to live.
With desperate care an d medicine he is just a bit better and sleepy most of the time. he is eating on his own. he is getting baytril, once every 24 hours and has been injected with a powerful pain killer effective for 3 days.
Are there any medicines i can buy off the shelf or make myself that could help this poor rabbit kid pull through a nasty Pneumonia.
Any other tips to help him?
Thanks, in advance, for any help.

I am sorry that your Rabbit is very ill. There is not really any ‘home made’ treatments for Pneumonia, his best chance will be to continue with the conventional medicine. Making sure that he has a good intake of nutrients is important. If he is not eating well you could supplement his feeds with this https://emeraid.com/vet/emeraid-herbivore/

I hope that your Rabbit can recover

Really sorry to hear that your rabbit is so poorly. I hope the meds that the vet prescribed will help him to recover, sending lots of vibes for him.

Sorry you are having to deal with this.
All I can suggest is good nursing - keep him medicated, eating, and comfortable.

Maybe a heat pad that he has the option of using if he wants to, and a box stuffed with hay for a bed - certainly keep him indoors where you can keep an eye on him and maintain a comfortable room temperature and no draughts.

It is important to keep him eating - probably anything he wants to eat, and you may have to provide it in different ways to make it easy for him and will tempt him (eg fresh grass, fresh herbs with strong smells, dandelion leaves, grated apple or carrot).

He's got enough on just to keep breathing, so anything you can do to make anything else easier for him should help, as long as it doesn't increase his stress levels.

Thanks everyone who replied.
48 hours after the extremely grim prognosis, I am happy to report that the rabbit seems to be pulling along fine and is looking much better. He has been eating mostly greens, a few pellets but hates the pet store provided hay and just does not eat it. My wife and daughter have spent lots of hours caring for him and thanks to his creator and good wishes, he seems to be moving away from the edge of death.
I will try to get him some hay from a farmer which is usually preferred by some rabbits.
Do you ever provide your rabbit with some multi vitamins, may be in soluble form?
I have never done it and wonder if this is helpful during severe sickness or when they are normal.

Healthy Rabbits fed the appropriate diet should not need Vitamin supplements. If you wanted to give some to your sick Rabbit then your Vet may advise you of a specific type to give. I use this one

I am glad that your Rabbit appears to be responding to treatment :)
