Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Such a wonderful update, both of your amazing girl and little Leo. They are truly blessed to be in the care of you, your wife, and your amazing son. Hope you feel better after a good sleep Craig xxx

I am glad she is home with her loved ones. She has a lovely bond with Leo and their reunion sounds like a special site.
Since she is prone to bladder issues would it be useful to put her on supplemental fluids to dilute her pee-like a flush from the inside as she heals?
Sending vibes for a full recovery.

Quick update at lunchtime. I’ve had no texts or phone calls today from son so all could be good. I don’t remember sleeping last night and didn’t dream - so I was in a mega deep sleep. Still tired tho.
Lillian was comfortable last night and was interested in breakfast and even came over to have a nose bump which she’s not done with me before. We’ve discovered she doesn’t like cystitis meds (capsule emptied on food) on anything. We tried mashed pear but she wasn’t having that. I tried cranberries. That didn’t work. So it’s a syringe with water mixed solution under protest. I don’t understand how a rabbit turns her nose up at powder on fruit and refuses to eat it like it’s the worst thing ever, but will happily eat poop. Someone explain that to me!
She’s off to get abx jab in 2 hours so we’ll see what the situation is with her then. But so far she’s recovering very well. Won’t let her outside for a while tho just in case.

I'm glad Lillian had a comfortable night and enjoyed her breakfast, and even came over for a nose bump with you, aw. It's great that she's still recovering well. =) It's unfortunate that she doesn't like the cystitis meds on anything, though. Why a rabbit would eat poop but not fruit with powder is a very good question...

Because Rabbits have a default setting of complicated !

I would mix the powder with some fruit puree and syringe feed it. At least you know she has had the proper dose that way.

Lillian had her last abx jab tonight and my wife had a brief chat with the exotic vet specialist. Lillian has these cystitis tablets now for life - one a day. We'll work out how to administer them - and we will use the helpful advice that everybun has posted. Pineapple juice was mentioned by the vet, along with ribena. The vet said Lillian also needs to drink more so we may end up syringe feeding her water. The meds will help to bolster Lillians bladder. There is a feeling by the vet that Lillians condition might be due to stress.
Lillian is presently flat out under the dining room table - having been stressed with the vet visit today, but she's comfortable. As always, it'll be a few days of slow recovery even though her path to this point in the last 2 days has been nothing short of remarkable.
She and I have alot to thank you all for with all your vibes.
I'll post some pictures at the weekend including a 'bonus one' which absolutely no one will suspect at all.
Thank you everybun - Craig & Lillian xx

Thanks for the update Craig, and glad Lillian is doing well. That's interesting what the vet said about stress, I know cats can be prone to cystitis, and stress is a major trigger. My cat George is very stressy, he suffers from separation anxiety, and has occasional flare ups of cystitis. He has a daily supplement which I sprinkle on his food, it's supposed to help keep the bladder lining healthy. It has definitely helped him. Look forward to the photos !

I hope the cystitis tablets she'll be taking from now on will keep this from happening again in the future as much as possible. It's good that she can just recover at home now, having had her last antibiotics shot. Her recovery these past days really has been remarkable, as you said. I've been surprised at your updates of how she's been doing, but very glad for her that she's been comfortable after the worst was over. She's an impressive bunny. Sending her lots more vibes. I'll be looking forward to the photos, too. =)

Hm. Capsules for cystitis? I didn't know there were any. My poor old cat with kidney issues could probably use those, since she's a major stressball at all times, but my vet has only prescribed pain relief and relaxing atmosphere, which is next to impossible. I also have noticed certain foods will set her off, so its probably prudent to keep Lillian from her trifids for a time.

I'm glad to hear that she is doing better. Hopefully better sleep is in the future for you soon!

Ah...medicating recalcitrant bunnies-or any animal for that matter...I've never had any luck with giving fruit or other treats with meds on, but always endeavour to treat afterwards especially when administration is by mouth. Mimzy had to take meclizine for his vertigo after head tilt and I bet it tasted vile, but he knew to look forward to his treat of mint leaves afterwards to take the nasty taste out. Jenna is similar in that having tablets is impossible for her tiny mouth so I do grind them up into water, but then give a little more of her tinned food or the very occasional bit of cheese (a minuscule bite that is gone before it's tasted) and she forgets all about the disgusting medicine I just gave her. :D

A bonus? This is intriguing. :) I hope you all have a much more relaxing time this evening. xx
