  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Should I be worried?

Every few days I am finding a couple of slightly unformed and uneaten cecals. I think they're from Rupert although both he and Lilac have lovely clean bums so a bit hard to be 100% sure.

He's just finished a course of precautionary panacur following being ill just over a month ago, and he seems absolutely fine in himself, happy and causing plenty of mischief.

Each time it happens I cut out veg and only give hay and nuggets, then give veg again when I no longer find any cecals. All treats are off the menu too. Just not sure why it keeps happening and whether it's something I need to be concerned about.

Has it started after the Panacur or did it happen before ? IME excess cecals are usually caused by too many pellets rather than Veg. How much Pellet feed do you give and what brand ? Excel is known to cause excess cecals for some Rabbits.

It started after the panacur, he had his last dose about 48 hours ago. I use Excel, they have about an egg cup between the two of them each day. I can cut down further to see if it makes a difference. He would sometimes leave some of the pellets but recently he's been eating his share.
