Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
So over the last few days we've had a bit of change. He's having some pasty poo every day now, something we'd never really seen before the antibiotics. I'm not sure if it's the liquid getting better or if it's his normal poos getting worse. Awaiting a response from my vet on whether we can do a blood test as the next step in finding out what's up.
I did stop the readigrass and grass like Walli suggested, and I've cut down on the protexin too as he seemed to be over the really bad patch of liquid poo.
No need for anyone to respond really, just updating for my own sake.
Blood tests showed nothing in particular. She did say he's a little anaemic but that shouldn't be causing any problems.
We're going to do another poo test to see if the coccidiosis is back/didn't happen to be present in the last one and if that's not the cause she said she can either refer me for further tests elsewhere or we just say "it's not bothering him, lets leave it be".
Dental officially off the table which is a big relief for insurance purposes.
Martha is coming on Sunday! Both excited and very very nervous.
