Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit vets that would consult with o/s vets?

Hi everyone

I’m wondering if you could suggest some rabbit vets that you know will consult with other vets looking for help with diagnoses? I’m looking to assist another rabbit owner. I think they gave already asked OS vets themselves but I’m encouraging they have their vet seek other professional opinions instead.

I know Frances Harcourt-Brown is now retired but her website does say other vets can email her for opinions.
Would Richard Saunders be another possibility?

There was also a vet down south that was wonderful some years ago when I suggested a rabbit owner seek their help. He went above and beyond. But I cannot remember his name!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)

ETA: I’m reaching out to a rabbit specialist we have here in Australia also.

You could certainly try Richard

Then there is Mark Rowland who may be able to offer some input

Also, the Exotics Vets at The Beaumont Sainsbury Small Animal Hospital in London

ETA- Was the Vet 'down south' Jason Burgess ?

Oh Jane! You “look” different :p I recognised your photos in the siggy and it took me a moment. 🙄

Thank you for the quick reply. I will pass on these details. I haven’t yet heard back if this owners vet will be open to doing this as yet. Fingers crossed.

I’m doing a crash course on UK geography 😳. I think the one “down south” was more Southhampton area perhaps? Or maybe that’s where the owner was... my memory is trash, sorry.

If the vet practice is a member of RWAF then they are entitled to contact Richard Saunders through the RWAF for advice
