  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Penelope injured leg :(

Thank you :)

This is her this morning, I'm glad she's still seeming bright in herself

That is such a moving photo. Penelope looks both relaxed and also very trusting of the fact you are helping her exactly when she needs that intervention. It is a special bond you have.
Continuing to send Penelope loads of vibes for the coming days. Xx

Still haven't got her booked in, everything is there tho now, she could have it done any day next week with William, or on the 24th with the orthopaedic surgeon.. I'm so conflicted! I want it done ASAP, but Idk if its okay to wait til the 24th or not tbh..

personally I'd want it done asap so that the recovery process can start and you can resume normality for the buns as soon as possible tbh. there's gonna be a long recovery ahead I imagine.

I think it would be manageable until the 24th in terms of care, since she's doing alright rn & things would just continue the same...but I wouldn't want her sitting around as she is for any longer than necessary as she is. I'm very impatient and I'd wanna get it sorted and on the road to normality as soon as possible, vs waiting. its the sooner that Penelope's & her friend (sorry, I can't think of the name ) can go back to living as they were before. rn ofc you need to be careful in terms of restricting Penelope, which restricts her friend too. its not the end of the world, but just my thoughts on the matter!

I'm just impatient in general and like things to be done yesterday, which would impact me in this situation if both vets are capable and one could do it sooner.

Think I would agree with BC to be honest, I'd want to get it over with while she is fit and well, but whatever you decide will be right for you and Penelope xxx

Yea I agree with you both and feel the same, I just also really want the specialist to do it, apparently he's extremely experienced with this operation.. Idk what to do [emoji51]

If William and the Specialist think it would be OK to wait, I'd wait :)

The difference would be between having it done next week or a week later. Especially as Penelope, and I assume Apricot as well, are managing perfectly OK with the current arrangements.

Idk if they think it's okay to wait or not really, it's just when it can be done and my choice.

I'm just worried about her hurting herself more in the week I think. But she is doing okay, and I would prefer the specialist. I'm just worried, and if something happens, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for delaying it by a week :(

I think I will wait for the 24th, I'ma just be a bag of nerves until then [emoji51]

Would you be able to book with specialist with understanding that William would do it sooner if she begins to degrade? She might recover quicker if experienced person does so perhaps waiting will not prolong her return to normalcy.
You will make the right decision because there is no wrong one. Hugs for you all.
