  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hip dislocation

I have let her run free...she's eating and scampering about, so I guess she's not in any pain. Her leg has set at a funny angle, but if it doesn't bother her, why change it?
:(
i went to the vet to day because my perfect little Benji had been limping.:(:(:cry::cry: they said it was ether dislocated or dislocated and fractured. :(:(:cry: they then said that it was really easy to pop back in which is bad because it can come back out again and be really painful again.:cry::cry:
then he said if it is not set in 24 hours he will have to go to bunny heaven.:cry::cry: i am still hoping it will set good. it is a very big chance it will pop out again.:cry::cry:

I am sorry to hear of Benji's injury. Did the Vet prescribe an anti inflammatory analgesic such as Metacam ? Did the Vet not suggest an Xray ? Did the Vet give advice as to how to care for Benji in this critical phase-ie to restrict his activity, to make sure he keeps eating/drinking/pooing and weeing ? If the answer is no to all of these questions I would want to seek a second opinion from another 'Rabbit Savvy' Vet. I would certainly not agree to PTS without some diagnostics. Fractures and dislocations may be serious, but they are certainly not always a death sentence x
